The department's parity for mula in its monthly report stood at 77 per cent, compared with 79 per cent in mid-Oetohcr and 84 per cent In November. It meant the farmer was being squeezed between a smaller income and rising living costs. It also meant the farmer was down to his lowest level m 19 years in terms of what his dollar would buy. And farm prices tum bled to the lowest level in more than 2'a years in straight dollar- j tt ann-cenis lerms. The report showed that prices received by farmers for crops and livestock fell 2 per cent in the month ended Nov. 15 Union Calls For Short Work Week To Avoid Cutback WASHINGTON UPI A un ion leader sa d today a s'.orter work week might bj the only al ternative to mais unemployment in future years. Al Whitehousc. director of the AFL-CIO Industrial Union Depart ment, made the statement in a speech prepared for a labor con ference on workers' retirement and leisure problems. Whitehouse bitterly attacked New York Gov. Nelson Rockefel ler for advocating no reduction in the staida-d 40-hour week to pro mote the nation's economic growth. With obvious sarcasm, the un ion official said that with the 40 hcur week America has "marr aged to solve almost everything except how to keep our workers employed, our children educated, our old folks in reasonable comf fort ard other 'minor' problems of that kind." The troubles down on the farm merely added grist for the politi cians' mills.
