World Heavy Champ Learfjng
Double Lire In Hollywood
By VERNON SCOTT
UPI Writer
HOLLYWOOD 'ITl'- Ingemar
Johansson is leading a double life
in tinsel town acting during the
day and living it up at night.
The world heavyweight cham
pion, acting in his first movie, has
stood the movie colony on Its ear
with rumors of his prowess with
the gentler sex.
Humor has it the big Swede is
cutting a wide swath with the
glamour crowd especially actress
Stella Stevens and singer Peggy
Lee. '
The big guy denies the whole
thing.
"I work out at night after the
movie work, and then I go
sleep," he said. "I am staying in
condition all the time.
He explained his regimen. Up
early to appear on the set in time
for shooting. A quick dinner after
work. Exercising in the early eve
ning and then a full night's sleep.
spends Tim Studying
"I am not dating American
girls," he' said soberly. "I spend
my time studying the script and
learning how to act. Last night
I went to bed early and read a
book." "
The big guy was lounging in
Alan LadU's dressing room outside
the Columbia sound stage of "All
the Young Men." A hl fl outfit was
blaring a mournful ballad InKe
mor is Ladd's house gut during
his Hollywood stay.
The champ's devotion to condi
tioning and early hours was blast
ed from the reality by hunt Ladd,
who burst into the room shouiing:
"You son-of-a-gun, Ingemar!
Where were you 'til 2 a m. this
morning? 1 waited until 1:30 and
then gave up the ghost. What
were you up to?'
Attempt T Chang Subject
Ingormar blushed and attempted
to change the subject.
"Acting is not so much different
from boxing," he said quickly. "I
know my lines, but when the cam
eras are going I try to behave like
a normal person. In a way fight
ing is show business too. You are
in the ring with another man, und

Soviet Propaganda Hammers
Away On World Disarmament
By PHIL NEWSOM
UPI Staff Writer
In recent weeks, and to the
exclusion of almost all else, So
viet propaganda has hammered
away at the theme of world dis
armament.
Less obvious, but there for the
looking, are the Russian "gim
micks'' which seem certain to
doom future efforts toward dis
armament to the failure of all
such in the last 15 years.
In the coming months there
will be no less than three separ
ate international conferences with
disarmament as a common topic.
One already is at work in
Geneva. It is the meeting of U.S.,
British and Soviet representatives
seeking agreement on a ban
against nuclear weapons tests.
Early next year a lu-nation
United Nations committee will
meet in Geneva to consider a
bundle of disarmament proposals.
including Soviet Premier Nikita
Khrushchev's proposal for "total
and general disarmament in four
years," a step-by-step plan pro
posed by British Foreign ftlinis-
ter Selwyn Lloyd and several
others.
Oromyko Gimmick Unnoticed
Finally, in the spring it is ex
pected that the United Stales,
Britain, France and Russia will
meet at the summit tor further
disarmament discussions.
Generally unnoticed but clearly
defined by Soviet Foreign Minis
ter Andrei Gromyko at the clos
ing session of the Supreme Sonet
in Moscow was this gimmick:
"Control 1 inspection to see that
disarmament terms are carried
out) must correspond to the ex
tent and stage of disarmament.
Control without disarmament
would be an attempt to establish
espionage."
In other words to the West:
then we will let you see that we
also have laid down ours."
With Communist deception in
the rearming ol North Korea as
an existing example, the West
finds it impossible to agree to any
such condition.
Ignores International Force
Another gimmick is the Khru
shchev proposal that individual
stales be left with "strictly lim
ited contingents of police'' to
maintain internal order.
Any police force large enough
to maintain internal order in Rus
sia or China for example, cer
tainly would be large enough to
overrun any smaller cusarmea
neighbor in the event the larger
decided "discipline" was neces
sary.
The Khrushchev proposal made
no mention of any international
force to handle or monitor inevit
able disputes between nations.
