Van Doren is a sale issue, while his fall from grace is taking place, remember that he didn't corrupt Dan Knright. Contact with big-time TV corrupted Van Doren. And remember, too, that if a man like Van Dureo can yield to the rationalizations that were showered upon him, who among us could have walked away? Don't let clever public rela tions and TV comedians divert attention from the main issue: Big money and higher ratings. We all recall exultation -over those lofty quiz show ratings and , the world-wide publicity those shows received. Can the people who helped cre ite this mess get a grip on them selves, place principle over ex pediency, and demonstrate im peccable judgment in the future? Let's just say: They must. The balloon was launched by the National Aeronautic and Space Administration i NASA I in a series of experiments the gov ernment hopes will lead to plac ing a similar balloon in orbit around the earth. The space agency said the ex periment achieved its aim of test ing the vehicle's ejection and in flation machinery. Data on its performance was radioed back to earth. The balloon was not meant to go into orbit. The two-stage launching rocket, producing l;Mi.0(H) pounds of thrust, produced a bright vapor trail in the evening sky which contributed to the wide visibility.
