Lions View Slides On U.N. By La Grande Church Pastor The Rev. Wallace Hastings. minister at the First Christian church, provided .the program at the regular noon luncheon meet ing of the local Lions club held at the Sacajaea Hotel. Hastings showed a series of colored slides of the physical properties of th? United Nations, where he attended a seminar. His description of the slides provided information not only of the uses of the various meeting halls, con ference rooms and assemblies, but also ca.st considerable light on the activities of the many differ ent commissions, departments and organizations within the United Nations. Committee Reports George Lorenzen, Oakley Sum mers, and Jesse Rosenbaum sub mitted reports, as heads of com mittees, on various Lions activi ties. Guests for the day were Otto Mahrt, visiting Lion from Rear don, Wash., and Boyd Hadden, of La Grande. Dr. Richard Gingrich was intro duced as a new club member. Wallowans Pay Visit To Idaho Relatives WALLOWA (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Bill Goebel, Mrs. C. A. Het- rick and Mrs. M. E. Waclty drove to Caldwell, Idaho, recently to visit the John Goebel family. John is the brother of Mrs. Wael ty. Mrs. Hetrick and Bill Goebel. Before returning to Wallowa they paid visits to the families of their nieces at Cascade, Murphy and Wilder, Idaho. Elgin Church Hosts Youths ELGIN, (Special) The Christ ian Church hosted the young peo ple of northeastern Oregon for a Christian Endeavor rally recently. Milton-Freewater, Baker, Athena and Enterprise took part. Slides were shown of the state C. E. convention at Astoria and of Bill Arthur's trip to Eastern Oregon last year. The ladies served lunch at noon. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Roulet left Friday for Long Island, N. Y., for a visit at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roger DePtty and daughter. Recent Guests Mr. and Mrs. Jack Eckstein were recent guests at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Claude Lewis of Port Orchard, formery of Elgin. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith of Portland were Tuesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Bechtel. The Community Garden Club will meet Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Hannah Thomas. Luncheon Planned The Elgin Womans Club will hold a Cafeteria luncheon Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Methodist Fellowship Center. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brown of Portland were overnight guests recently of her aunt, Mrs. Ruth Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hunt return ed Friday from a two-week vaca tion trip through Montana and Wyoming. Tupper Ware Fete At Tuck Home In Summerville . SUMMERVILLE (Special) A Tupper Ware party was held re cently in the home of Mrs. John Tuck. Mrs. Jean Harson of La Grande was. present to give the demonstration. Mrs. Marge Mink. La Grande, is being trained for the new dealership of Tupper W are prcducts. - Two games were played with first prize going to Mrs. Wayne Parks. Mrs. Cliff Patrick and Sirs. Alvy Pfefferkorn tied for the second game. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting and viewing the plastic products.. President Mrs. Hanah Owen presided over th business meeting. The year books were given each one pres ent. Mm. Owen turned the meet ing over to Mrs. Dale Vaught who had charge of the program. A skit, "Salute to Our Schools." was given with four adults and eight high schcol students par ticipating. She then introduced Miss Mildred Schnore, 4th grade teacher, who has taught in the Elgin schools since 1923. all but one year in the 4th grade. Miss Schnore introduced the teachers and explained the year they start ed teaching in the 'Elgin school system. Only two teachers were absent. Refreshments were served in the cafeteria. A large crowd at tended the meeting. ' Mrs. Danny Garroutte of Se ward, Alaska, recently arrived at the home cf her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Trump, for a visit. Her nephew.
