Find Bargains

er weather approaches, the na
tion's thrifty shoppers will con
tinue to find pork, beef, and
poultry, highlighting the best val
ues in protein foods.
Other protein foods which con
tinue thrifty buys ae the smaller
eggs, and many types of cheese.
Vegetable bins, while varieties
are narrowing, offer good sup
plies of potatoes and sweet pot a
toes, onions, carrots, several kinds
of squash, cucumbers, cabbage
and snap beans Lettuce, which
has been rather high priced lately,
is declining in some markets as
supplies increase.
In fruits, apples continue to
headline early fall offeiinjjs. But
many markets are featuring ex
cellent supplies of pears, grapes,
oranges and lemons. Cranberries
are beginning to show up no,
along with new-crop grapefruit.
In the fish line, best buys con
tinue to lie shrimp, fish sticks,
and canned tuna.
These are the week-end's lest
' buys, nationally. 'Now, h?re's a
closer look at plentiful foods in
Idaho, Montana. Nuvada, Oregon,
Utah. Washington, Wyoming :
Consumers will have to shop
carefully to fine! the most at
tractive buys this week. Pork is
in best supoly among the red
meats, and some cuts are slightly
lower in prioe. Beef, calf and
veal are in moderate supply, and
mostly unchanged in price. Lamb
prices are unchanged, with sup
plies plentiful in the Los Angeles
area, but somewhat short in San
Francisco and the Northwest.
Egg supplies are lighter, and
prices are - increasing. Eggs are
3 to 4 cents a dozen higher this
week in the Los Angeles area.
