government's investment in price
supported wheat, corn, cotton, and
other surplus farm commodities
.totaled $8,648,779,000 on June 30.
, ,The Agriculture Department
eaid the investment was made up
of $6,200,267,000 in commodities
owned outright by the Commodity
Credit Corp. and $2,448,312,000 in
outstanding loans on farm prod
ucts stilt held by producers.
' The investment on June 30 of
last year was $7,029,695,000.

Foreign Agricultural Service said
today exports of bananas in 1958
increased by more than 10 million
bunches, or 7.5 per cent, over
1957. U.S. imports rose 3.8 per
cent.
The United States continued to
be the most importait consum
ing country. It took 44 per cent
if all bananas last year. Western
Europe took 41 per cent
Central and South America con-1
tinned to supply more tha.i 80 per
cent of the world's banana trade,

GERMANS STUDY CRASH
BREMEN. Germany (UPI
An investigation was started Fri
day in the crash of a West Ger
man jet fighter - bomber into a
school building, narrowly missing
30 children at lunch in the cafe
teria. None of the children was
injured. The body of the pilot
was found in the wreckage.
Piccolo accepted a $0 down pay
ment from Frank Sarnataro of
Valley Stream. N.Y., a New York
City suburb, and ordered him to
pay the rest by Oct. 20.
SNAKE IN TREE
BOMBAY. India UPD A wom
an and her two sons spent twa
days in a tree with a 12-foot-long
cobra who also' sought refuge
from swirling floods which inun
dated a village near Sural this
week, it was reported today. The
snake slipped away after the wa
ter receded and the family was
rescued unharmed.

dent Eisenhower, Soviet Premier
NikiUi Khruschev and their for
eigq ministers will occupy the
same cottage at Camp David, Md.,
this weekend, the White House dis
closed. This will give them maximum
opportunity for crucial cold war
talks.
Joining the President and
Khrushchev at Aspen cottage, nor
mally occupied by the President
when he is at the Catoctin Moun
tain retreat, will be Soviet For
eign Minister Andrei Gromyko and
Secretary of State Christian A.
Herter.
The White House announcement
came as Eisenhower conferred
with--seven of his top advisers to
help him prepare for the week
end meeting with Khrushchev.

relatives of five Americans still
imprisoned in Communist China
to assure them of continued ef
forts to seek their release.
President Eisenhower is expect
ed to bring up the issue with Sov
iet Premier Nikita Khrushchev at
their Camp David talks this week
end, v
. At least 158 Americans have
been jailed or held under house
arrest in China since the Com
munist regime was set up in 1949.
The U.S. and Chinese Commun
ist representatives issued an
"agreed announcement" Sept.. 10.
1955 under which the Commun
ists pledged to permit all Ameri
cans to return home "expeditious
ly.
However, no American prison
er has been released since Dec.
20, 1955, except at the expiration
of his sentence.
One of the five prisoners is
from the West. He is Hubert Ez
ra McCann, a businessman whose
family lives in Pasadena, Calif.
