MR. AND MRS. RUSSELL RHODI3 . Married In La Grande Local Couple Married lit Pioneer Park Church Phyllis Ruth Read, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Read of La Grande, and Russell Delmar Khodig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell D. Rhodig also of La Grande, were married Aug. 14, in the Pioneer Park Church of God. The Rev. Harold W. Neal of ficiated at the ceremony. Missibook.- The Misses Susan Beau- Marcia Miller was soloist; she sang "Because" and the "Lords Prayer," accompanied by Miss Leola Miller. Decorations in the church in cluded two baskets of pink and white gladioli, placed near the altar. The bride was given in marri age by her father. She wore a Jloor length, brocade satin gown, made by the bride's mother. She carried a white orchid on a white Bible with streamers. A crown of white flowers held the elbow length veil. Maid of honor was Miss Kalhy Read, a sister of "the bride. She wore a light pink brocade taffe ta sheath dress and an artifi cial crown of pink roses. She carried a bouquet of pink and white roses. Her accessories i were white gloves and shoes. Bridesmaids were the Misses Netha Rhcdis, sister of the groom, and Sheila Statler. They' were dressed in medium pinkj brocade taffeta sheath dresses. I Their crowns were pink artificial roses and they carried bouquets of pink and white gladioli. Miss Sara Workman and Miss Bettie Workman, cousins of the bride, were the candle lighters, j They wore pink boufount street; length dresses. I Charles Rhodig, a brother of the groom was best man, ana ushers were. Bill Carson, groom's brother in-law, and Volkert H. K. Goebel. Billy Carson, groom's nephew, was the ring bearer. The mother of the bride wore a beige suit with beige and white accessories, and a corsage of pink and white roses. The groom's mother' wore a black and white afternoon dress with white accessories, and a pink and white rose corsage. A reception was held in the church basement, decorated with baskets of gladioli in a variety cfj colors, carrying out me pin and white color scheme. Mrs. Louis C. Mrs. Robert Read, Mrs. Lester Robinson, all aunts of the bride, assisted. Mrs. Bill Carson, groom's sis tor had charge of the guest champ and Karen Welo were in charge of gifts. The newlyweds honeymooned Canada, Glacier Nat'l Park ond Yellowstone Nat'l Park. For her traveling the bride wore a pink , satin suit, white accessor ies, and an orchid corsage. The couple are at home in El gin, where the groom teaches in the school system. The bride is a graduate of La Grande High School and attended one year at Eastern Oregon College. Chapter members and their guests recently traveled via progressive dinner, through the "Wide Wide World, their edu cational program for the year. Each guest received their intin erary in a travel folder, with des tination and arrival times listed for each dinner course. The respective homes of Mrs. Tom Cook, Mrs. - Keith Patten, Mrs. Rcbert Stuart and Mrs. Ray McFarland were hosts to the group. David Hibbert Services Set In LDS Church David Leo Hibbert, a 71 year old retired farmer, died Tuesday fol lowing a sudden illness, at his ranch in the Iowa School district. Funeral services will be held in the Latter Day Saints Church, Friday at 2 p.m. Bishop Walter A. Bean will officiate. Burial will be in the City cemetery. Arrange ments under the Daniels Funeral I Home. Mr. Hibbert was born Jan. 19, 1888, at Mesa, Ariz. He had been a resident of La Grande for 36 years, and was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors are two sons, Leo Eugene and David Keith Hibbert of La Grande; one brother, Charles Hibbert of Union: four sisters, Mrs. Alice Orton, Warden, Wash.; Mrs. Florence Jensen, Provo, Utah; Mrs. Buryle Mortensen, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. May J.irvis, Fresno, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. Mrs. timer Peck chose for her devotional study, a brief summary of the liv-s of the two Saints whose birthdays fall in September. St. Matthew and St. Michael. Fol lowing this, she read the ccllocls for these two days, and the Lord's Prayer was recited by the group. Mrs. Merritt Owen called the business meeting to order, and the minutes of the June meeting together with the treasurer's re port read to the group. It was reported that a rcrrig- erater had been purchased with money earned by the two church gui'ds at a special project in June. A number of needs for the church were discussed. The motion was made that the Sunday School su perintendent be instructed to in vestigate blackboards which could be used in the Sunday School class rooms. A storage vessel for refresh ments for the Sunday School youngsters will be purchased so that Mothers may bi ing their con tributions of cookies, crackers and Kool-aid, thus assuring a supply on hand when needed. Fol'owing this, the choirs did all the singing. At one time, women were not allowed to sing in the choir. The Martin Luther revived and encouraged the use of hymns in the church service, and all the people participat'-d. "A Mighty Fortress is our God" is one of the great all time favorites com posed In Luther. To illustrate the use of var ious types of music in the Kp's copal church, Rev. Wood ployed a r-cording describing the p.irts as they were sung. This was followed by a discussion of music as it is used by the church. - Refreshments were served by hostesses, Mrs. James Burr and Mrs. Robert Orr. Local Sorority Has Coffee Hour Alpha Epsilon chapter of Ep silon Sigma Alpha, members held a coffee hour Sunday morning in the home of Mrs. Elmer McManus, educational sponsor for the chapter. Refreshments were served to chapter members and guests from a beautifully appointed table us ing a Mexican motif. Mrs. Lu cille Lumsden and Mrs. Robert Carey poured.
