UNION BRIEFS German Exchange Student Will Lecture At Union School UNION iSpjciul) Frederick Schmitz-Wennenthal, a German ex change student who lives in Cove, will lecture and shew pictures ol Germany, Wednesday at 8 o'clock at the S. Johnson ore leaving this weekend for Califor nia for a two weeks vacation. They ELGIN BRIEFS Ricks Brothers Monday the Ricks brothers. Ezra and Rudgcr. left Elgin to move to Victor. Idaho the place where they lived as boys after 40 years in Oregon. Last year in May the brothers received nationwide publicity when they made th? trip to Victor by covered wagon. The return trip was made in July. They took their team and covered wagon by train this trip. They sold their property in Elgin to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sagers. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graham and daughter Susan of Rockaway came Wednesday for a five day vacation at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Graham. Mrs. Margaret L. Allen of Cald well, Idaho, arrived Wednesday for a visit at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lenn Allen. ' Califomian Visits " Mrs.' Hazel Bauer of Arcadia. Calif., arrived Wednesday to visit her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Graham. Mr. and Mrs. John Shaw of Seattle were Tuesday over night guests of Mr?. Hannah Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Laird had as their guests recently Mrs. Laird's sister, Mrs. Louise Worrell of Portland, and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Worrell of La Grande. George Holland has purchased the house on Main Street from Mrs. Hazel Jones and mov-d from La Grande to Elgin where he lived many years ago. KILLED BY ACCIDENT NEW YORK il'PI'-A 22-year-old woman sitting on her doorstep was killel Monday by a police man s bullet fired at a fleeing car theft suspect. The death was ruled accidental. Police said Miss Delisht Crawford was killed by Patrolman James O Connell as he chased down Irv ing Moore. 30. O'Connell had seen Moore tinkering with the iE'i't'o-i of a truck, apoarently in an at tempt to steal it. O'Connell cap tured Moore after a scuffle but was unaware of Miss Crawford's death until after he returned to the police station. - 14-- will return by way of Portland where th- will spend a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Kohl went to Portland for the weekend. Kohl is going to the hospital there for a check up. Mr, and Mrs. Robert Wells are in Portland for a family reunion and visiting their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dran Wells. Miss Ada Edvalson of San Fran cisco is visiting at her mothers home, Mrs. Cecelia Edvalson, this week. Marie Moultcn is on vacation this week. She works at the Union ! Variety Store.
