The Com munist Party newspaper Pravda Friday launched a campaign against a revival of "religious prejudices" in the Soviet Union. . Pravda said clergymen have shrewdly adopted new tactics for keeping religion alive in the Soviet Union. It said they are attempt ing to reconcile religion with sci ence and trying to convince the people that Communist philosophy "can co-exist with religion." Pravda accused the clergy of exploiting holy shrines commer cially, scaring parents and chil dren into observing religious rites and organizing religious instruc tion for children. . Pravda said, however, that a revitalized campaign of atheism must be conducted legally and through educational means so as not to offend religious believers or infringe on worship. This sort of thing reflects on our child (Perry, 41, you know." Damone and his attractive 27-year-old wife recently reconciled "for the benefit of our !hild" aft er being estranged for 10 months. During that time Miss Angeli re ceived an interlocutory divorce decree on charges that Damone was "insanely jealous." Rockefellers In New York; No Plans Yet COPENHAGEN. Denmark UPI A Scandinavian Airlines plane carrying the newlywed Ste ven Rockefellers and Gov. Nelson Rockefeller and his wife to New York turned back when the pilot thought he . smelled something burning. The pilot said he returned here because he wanted to "take no chances." But a checkup showed nothing wrong and the plane took off again for New York two hours after its original departure. ' It was the second time a Rockefeller plane had turned back. Last Wednesday a Dutch KLM airliner flying Steven's brothers, Michael, 21. and Rod man, 27. to Norway, turned back to Idlewild International Airport because of engine trouble. There still was no announce ment on the honeymoon plans for Steven, 23, and his 21-year-old bride Anne Marie, the daughter of a retired Norwegian grocer. There have been reports they might go to Wyoming or take a cruise aboard a sailing vessel. For the governor it was busi ness as usual. He was meeting the newly appointed state Harness Racing Commission today in his New,' York office aod Was holding a press conference. The morning arrival in New York meant Anne Marie would get an aerial view of some of the Rockefeller wealth and power a view of towering Rockefeller Cen ter Skyscrapers and of the United Nations which stands on 6 million dollars worth of land donated by the Rockefeller clan. Ike Returns t From Vacation WASHINGTON UPI Presi dent Eisenhower, back from a two-week "work end play" vaca tion at bis farm, made prepara tions today for his coming diplo matic mission to Western Eu rope. Eisenhower departs Wednesday for the trip to Bonn, London and Paris. He will coordinate Allied strategy before Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev's visit to the United States starting Sept. 15. . White House Press Secretary James C. Hagcrty told reporters Sunday the President would like to hold a news conference before leaving for Europe. The President and Mrs. Eisen hower returned from Gettysburg. Pa., Sunday afternoon by auto mobile. The skies were overcast during the 85-mile drive, which was made in less than two hours. Before leaving, the President at tended Gettysburg Presbyterian church services. He heard a vis iting Negro minister, Rev. Gar nett Lee, pray for his "great success" on his coming diplo matic trips to Western Europe and Russia. , , 'Fast Freight' Service Begins From Silverton SILVERTON (UPI) "Fast freight" service began Sunday be tween Silverton and Portland. But it wasn't as fast as you might think. Two freight wagons were pulled out of Silverton by a four-horse hitch on the first leg of the Silver "D" Wagon Freight . service to Portland. . The four and one-half day round trip Journey will have overnight stops at Mt. Angel, Canby, and Milwaukie on the way to Port laad.
