Emily. Eigh teen girls were registered. f The girls' set up camp by choos ing their own campsites, building their own campfires. lashing wash stands and tutting up their sleep areas. Each group planned their oftn menu.'s and prepared them over their campfires. Tuesday the girls hiked to John son Tower, learning from the ranger in charge how fires are spotted and various other duties of the forest ranger. They saw the view of the valley from the tower and took pictures. After all had visited the tower, the hike 'continued to the Vieypoint. where each girl ate the sack lunch she had prepared. After lunch they 'returned to the tower where some chose to climb again to the top -and more pictures were taken. Then ill returned to camp to rest before preparation for the evening meal. Wednesday a group chose to hike with Mrs. Nicoson to Russel Spring. Those remaining in camp were kept -busy preparing name tags with alphabet macaroni on bits of bark. Wednesday evening following din ner, the girls joined their coun selors around the campfire for singing and an impromptu show by a group of the girls modeling sleep wear. Before returning to their own areas,' they had hot chocolate and popcorn furnished by th- Counselors. Thursday morning immediately following breakfast the girls cleaned up their areas and packed to return home. . Girls attending the camp were: Sally Bond, Linda Bond, Susie Peyron, Yolanda Jones, Ranee Bates, Charlene Lyons from Is land City; ' Marilyn Nicoson. Beverly Schaad. Carol Ann Court ney and Marie Ritchey grom La Grande; Colleene Elliott, Joanne Thomas, Jeanne Mason, Marion Crouter and Vera Elliott Union; Lynda Nelson, Lynn Conley and Ted Adams from Elgin. Counselors for the camp were Mesdames Delbert Janes, Clyde Jones, Marjorie Nicoson and Janet Bond. ' ' ' 1 r. Will Manage She is the daughter of Mrs. Malrose Lit tle who recently moved here from -Headquarters, Idaho. Mrs. Vernon Henderson and children have recently moved into the Rush house from Cottonwood Idaho. Her husband was trans ferred to California with the U. S. Army. She is the granddaugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Simp son. Sandra and Joe Carroll are spending tnte week ' with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W, J.- Gerson of Entiat, Wash. . Mr. and Mrs. Merle Allen visit ed Mr; and Mrs. Frank Graham of Rockaway a few days the past week and visited the Centennial at Portland. Caret for Grandson Mrs. John Cruikshank spent several days in Enterprise help ing care for her grandson Jim mie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Cruikshank, who has been quite ill. He Is much improved. Mr. -and Mrs. Mike Chandler accompanied By Mr. and Mrs Louie Hale left Wednesday morning' on a week's vacation trip. They plan to visit Dr. and Mrs. Claude Lewis of Port Or chard. Wash. ' They are formerly cf Elgin. Recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hardy was her sister. Mrs. Jim Purcell of Cooma, Aus tralia. She is visiting her moth er Mrs: Owen Pucket of Port land and will return to Austra lia the end of this month. Mrs. Jerry Maxwell and daugh ter Cheri of Haines left Wednes day after spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Adams. Mrs. Ada Barton and Mrs. Vio let Rosenberry accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bennett to Bell ingham. Wash., to attend their brother's funeral. Mrs. Delia Barnes also attended the funeral. Boy Scouts Hold 'Council Fire' WALLOWA (Special) Two hun dred forty-nine boys put on skits, an Indian dance and sang lustily Friday night et a Council Fire, at Wallowa Lake, Boy Scout Camp. Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific and continued partcipation in this summer's Far East midshipman training. During the nine-day inland sea voyage, two ports-of-cail were vis ited. Iwakuni, the first, afforded tours to Hiroshima, nearby na tional parks, beaches and natural hot springs. Beppu, on the is land of Kyuuhu, presented fam ous resort hotels, mineral baths. tours of volcanic deposits, golf courses, swimming, boating and the unusual "Furosan Bath," which consist of laying under a layer of steam-heated sand. Merry Mixers will hold a square dance Saturday, at Riverside Park. A potluck dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Bring own table service and potluck -dish. Square dance to follow at 8 p.m. Anyone interested is being in vited to attend. Celebrating a birthday today is Kathy Flink of La Grande. OAV Auxiliary and Chapter will hold their annual potluck picnic at Emigrant State Park Sunday at 1 p.m. Coffee and ice cream will be furnished. Mem bers to bring their own table ser vice. Paul Gardner of Baker under went major surgery at the Grande Ronde Hospital, Wednesday morning. Blue Mountain Gem Club will meet Saturday at e:30 p.m. in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Baum, Union.
