N. D., where they visited Iheir daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Dodg?. Ann Nice, who hzs been visiting her sister for the summer, accompanied her par ents home. On their way home the Nice's stopped and visited in Caldwell. Suzanne Maronry came on to La Grande with them, where she will visit the rest of the sum mer with her grandparents, "Mr. and Mrs. Chester Nice. Gordon Gorham Jr. is ill at th? St. Joseph hospital in La Grande with rheumatic fever. Mr., and Mrs. Zen Cutting re turned to their home on the coast after a visit here. Their three children who have been visiting their grandmother. Mrs. Roxie Cutting, returned with them. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hoiytya and daughter have moved into the Jack Gorham hcuse in North Powder. The Hoiytya's are from EUensburg. Wash. , Mrs. Albert Sehaan and children of Spokan are visiting at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Galligan, Mr. and Mrs. Walter McGrath attended church in Union Sunday morning, then went on to Hot Lake to visit his sister, Mrs. Alfa Yard strom. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith arc parents o5 a boy born July 27 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Baker. Ho weighed reven pounds, nine and one-half ounzes, and they named him David Patrick. Dcnece McCanse of La Grande spent Monday night with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Erwin. Marvin Smith is home visiting his grandmother. Mrs. Vida Noble. Mrs. Ernest Simonis and Mrs. Keith Simonis wcr? L'nion visitors Friday. They also went on to Hot Lake where they visited Mrs. Percy Nantz and Mr. Clarence Wicks. Both Mrs. Nantz and Mr. Wicks are reported to be feeling fine. Mrs. Clark Gray and children Linda and Roby wore Tuesday afternoon visitors o Mrs. Gary Erwin. Bill Taylor is reported to be feeing better, in the Veteran's Hos pital in Portland. He underwent surgery th'.re several weeks ago. The Eire Department was call ed Wednesday afternoon to a weed fire which was getting out of con trol behind the old Thompson house. Mrs. Buck Molton of United came to visit at ths home cf her parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Kirkland. Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Laughlin and three children of Baker visitt d at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl O'Bryant Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Oliver of Clackamas and Mr. and Mrs. Chet Oliver of Union visit-d at the Jay Gorham home Tuesday. Mrs. Kenneth Graves gave a birthday party at R.idium Hot Springs in honor of her stn. Danny's sixth birthday Mr. and Mrs. John Kerns. Various gardens around town show effects of a frost which took place Tuesday night. Mrs. Alma Lund, Mrs. Fred Christman. Mrs. Ed Taylor, and Mrs. Nick Nichols attended a Swedish Weaving Class in La Grande Tuesday afternoon. The three women went as project lead ers for the Home Extension Units, to learn how to Swedish weave. Each woman will give instructions on the weaving to the Units later cn in the season. Earl O'Bryant fell from a step tedder Wednesday morning while working at the M&M Co. He bruised his left hip, and will be unable to work for some time. He will be on crutches for several days. Frank Pearson is taking the place of O'Bryant at the mill until he is able to return to work. The Wolf Creek Grango Home Economics Club will meet at the home of Mrs. Ross Jones on Aug. 5. at 2 p.m. Ralph Hutchrnson traveled to Seattle where he attended the marriage of his sister. Hazel, to Don Davis. July 23. Hutchenson also visited with another sister and brcther in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Utahal of Orange, Calif. North Powder was honored to have the Oregon Centennial Wagon Train stop in Powder Tuesday at 12:30. The train circled around on the football field in back of the school house. The train people wer? thtn taken downtown where they were served lunch. The Wolf Creek Grange spun- sored a dinner for the Wagon Train people that evening. Tuesday evening people began lo gather to view the wagons and to hear the programs which ware offered by the various groups. Tom Lampkins acted as master of cere monies. He introduced Tex Serpa, the wagon master. Serpa gave a . speech, telling of various incidents that happened to the Wagon Train pinna the way. v. The Powder Valley Band, under the direction of Howard Manners, played several numbers. The Union County Fair Maids got together and did some numbers for the Wagon Train people. Charlie Hill, a 90 year old Tclo casot resident, was introduced. Bill crossed the plains by wagon train when he was 11 years old. The ladies of the Methodist Church served hot dogs and hot coffee. UPI Authorities Wednesday night re leased the names of the U.S. Air Force flying instructor and the two Puerto Rican Air National Guardsmen involved in a jet plane collision Wednesday northeast of San Juan. Maj. Walter Burke, of Dobbins Air Force Base, Marietta, Ga., and Puerto Rican Vicente Rics Dinaldi were at Ft. Brooke General Hospital after parachut ing from their T-33 trainer.
