Observer, La Grande, Oio., North Powder News BY BARBARA ERWIN Observer Correspondent Dclmar tSpctkyl Decker of Moses Lake is here spending the summer with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Walter McGrath have returned to their home after vacationing for two week in Port land. While in Portland, they took in the Rose Show, Ice Capades. and the Centennial. On (h-?ir way home they stopped and visited their son Kenneth and family at Woodburn. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones and son Don of Klamath Falls came Wednesday !nr a vacation and to visit friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Toedtli of Sacramento, Calif., were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Graves. Frank Utz left for Portland Sat urday where he will spend several days. Ir. and Mrs. Lendel Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn., are here visiting Mrs. Johnson's brother, Rona'd Walk, at La Grande. Mrs. Bessie Hobbs, the wife of the former Floyd Hobbs, died early Monday morning. Mrs. Hobbs left six children, five boys and one girl. She was a former resi dent and school teacher at North Powder years ago. Summer haying has started at various farms throughout the Pow der VaUcy. The North Powder M&M Co has been shipping government wheat for the past several days. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Crawford left July 1, for a vacation trip down to Missouri. There was a Cemetery Board meeting held at the City Hall Wed nesday night. The purpose of the meeting was to approve the budget. Mrs. Larry Pratt of Union spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Gary Erwin, while her husljend, Larry, tagged sheep for George Geils. Mr. and Mrs. David Cropp and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Taylor and children all spent Sunday picnick ing and fishing at Baum Creek Reservoir. Maizie McClure spent the week end at North Powder visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H?nry McClure. Maizie also visited vari ous friends around town. Maizie works in the Jantzen Co. at Port land.. Mrs. Duane Irvin and children of Union spent Sunday afternoon visiting at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Kirk land. Gary Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Taylor, is home for a two week vacation. Gary works at the Overhead Door Factory in Port land. Wilbur Osterloh returned to Powder over the weekend to attend to some business. He returned to Spokane where he and his wife are attending summer school. Mr. and Mrs. Gera'd Erwin and daughter, Donna, of Union visited at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Erwin, Sunday. Mrs. Fred Rorden and children of Union spent all day Monday with Mrs. Rorden's, daughter, Mrs. Gary Erwin. r -o- Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Blais and family traveled to Unity Dam on a picnic Sunday and returned home by Durkec, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Ted Stickler, former residents of Clover Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Erwin cele brated their first wedding anni versary at La Grande, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John Murdock and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Gor don Griffith and children held a picnic and fished ifb at Grande Hondo Lake, Sunday. o Mr. and Mrs. Carol Small and children of Baker, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Simonis. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Gilliam of Eugene have been visiting at the Emil Miller home on Wolf Creek. Gilliam was called here to the funeral of his father, Mitchell Gilliam, of Baker. Mr. Gilliam wjs buried Tuesday. June 16. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Christman left Friday for several days visit in Portland. Their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Crawford of Pilot Rock, accom panied them on their vacation. The proposed administrative school district shall comprise al' territory in the common school districts Nos. 1. 1A; 5. 5A: 10: 1: 15: 19 : 23 : 27 ; 31: 4fi; 52: 1: of Union County. Oregon; and all those small portions of land within Union County not now a part of any school district. The following are the terms of adjustment of property, assets. debts and liabilities applicable to said administrative school district and existing school districts which contain territory to be included within said administrative school district. The new administrative school district sha'l assume and succeed to the property, assets, debts and liabilities, including bonded indebtedness for each and all the existing districts and small nortions not in ar.y district in the manner provided by law. A summary of studies and sur veys upon which this reorganiza tion plan is based, as well as a legal description of the boundaries of the proposed administrative school district, are on file and may be examined at the office of the County School Superintendent in the Union County Courthouse at La Grande, Oregon.
