Observer, I Grande, Ore.; Sat., June 27, 1959 Page 5 BRANDO 'S EX- WIFE ANNA GETS HER OWN TV SHOW By VERNON SCOTT UPI Staff Writer HOLLYWOOD iLPH Almond eyed Anna Kashfi. Marlon .Bran do's ex-whife, said today she is starting life anew lo concentrate on an acting career. I For the first time in almost a year Anna is back at work and in her first television show. Fittingly, the smoky-s k i n n e d beauty who is purportedly half Indian, half Welsh portrays a half-caste French and Chinese girl in her video debut. Anna refused scores of oppor tunities in movies and TV during and since her turbulent marriage to mumbling Marlon. The fast back artists wanted to capitalize on her head lined marriage, baby and divorce. But the 24-year-old Anna turned thumbs down. Why, then, the sudden decision to perform again? "This is the first script I've liked," she said. "It's a waste of time to appear in anything that is not. good." Anna can afford to be choosy. Bier settlement with Brando brought in mere than half a mil lion dollars. She's bought a new home in Beverly Hills where she and young Christian, 13 months, live alone with a nurse. A semi-re- Two-Man Subs Suggested As Shark Weapon AZUSA. Calif. 'UP1 Aerojet General Corp. today suggested its one or two-man baby submarines as a weapon to fight sharks. "They're the most effective thing we. can suggest," said Jim Stubstad, project engineer for the company's 14-foot long fiberglass Minisub, who has personally dis patched two sharks. Stubstad made his suggestion as Southern Californians continued to visit their beaches but stayed out of the water in droves because of sharks. One man was killed by a shark recently off a San Dieso beach and another a month ago in me san rrancisco Bay Area. An experienced skin diver has little chance against a shark, but in a Minisub the odds may change radically in the man s favor, Stub stad indicated. The sub is a highly maneuver- able free-flooded affair which can be pedaled seven miles per hour or Driven by batteries. Its occu pants wear standard underwater breathing gear and could carry explosives, spear guns and other weapons. Minor conversions would be needed for the Minisub, which is now used in underwater research, photography and, occasionally, chasing whales. Brigiye's Sister Will Make Debut HOLLYWOOD H'PH -Brigitte Bardot's younger sister will fly to Hollywood July 6 to make her V. S. film debut in a picture about the Garden of Eden and wear about the same amount of cloth ing her 'famous sister does in films. Producers Albert Zugsmith and Red Dolf said today that Mijanou Bardot will portray the devil's mistress in the Garden of Eden sequences in "The Private Lives of Adam and Eve.'1 The picture stars Mickey Rooney and Mamie Van Doren. Shark Attacks Average Two A Year Since 1 95 LA JOtTA, Calif. iL'PI' Shark attacks in California waters have averaged two a year since 1S52. according to Conrad Limbaugh. a marine biologist of the Scripps In stitute of Oceanography. Limbaugh, who has compiled records of more than 300 fatal shark attacks throughout the world in the last 124 years, said Thurs day thaUall 14 verified accounts occurred, between San" Diego and San Francisco except for on. That one occurred about 15 miles south of the border near Rosarito Beach, Ba'ja California. Mexico. Hoffa's Union Clean-Up Vow Challenged WASHINGTON H'Pl' The Sen ate Rackets Committee confronts James H. Holfa with a rogues' gallery of Teamsters today as a challenge to his union clean-up claims. The committee laid the founda tion Thursday for Hoffa's appear ance by staging the biggest one day Fifth Amendment parade of its three-year history. No less than 15 Teamsters offi cials took turns in the witness chair and unanimously pleaded possible self-incrimination to avoid answering questions. Convicted Of Serious Crime Committee Counsel Robert F. Kennedy noted that the witnesses also had some other things in common. Almost to a man, they had been convicted of serious crimes and had been accused by the committee of "betraying" un ion members. Kennedy said there was no in dication Hoffa had acted to re move any of them from office during the 18-months he has served as president of the big truckdrivcr's union. He said the committee had found only three cases in which corruption-tainted Teamsters had fallen from office during Hoffa's regime. Two, he said, terminated their union employment by going to prison and the third burned to death on an arson job. Cite Hoffa Commitment Against this background, the committee cited what it regarded as a commitment from Hoffa to weed out wrongdoers. How well he has kept this promise was the main bone the committee wanted to pick with Hoffa today. In addition to calling in the Teamster chief for his third round of questioning, the committee scheduled testimony from Team sters John O'Rourke and John McNamara of New York. Floyd Webb of Joplin, Mo., and William Presser of Cleveland, Ohio. Kennedy said Glenn Smith of Chattanooga. Tenn.. who figured in the alleged bribery of a judge, also would be quizzed if he could be located. He said the commit tee lost contact with Smith Thurs day. Actress Is Sister's Witness In Divorce .
