Miner, director of placement Of the group, three will teach in California, two in Washington, and the remainder In Oregon. Jerry Lewis Signs Movie Contract For Over 10 Million HOLLYWOOD (UPD Comedian Jerry Lewis has signed a seven year contract with Paramount Pictures for a "minimum sum in excess of 10 million dollars," it has been announced. Paramount called the deal the "biggest single talent transaction in Hollywood istory for the ex clusive services of one star." Under the contract, Paramount will have exclusive rights to all of the comedian's motion picture ventures during the next seven years, said Jack- Karp, Paramount head. . , - Karp said the pact calls for Lewis to star in seven Paramount-York films during the con tract period in addition to seven pictures starring Lewis that will be produced by Jerry Lewis Pro ductions Inc. Observer, La Grandet Ore.. Mon., June 8, 1959 Page 6 Side Glances Wagon Train Stops At Casper CASPER. Wyo. (UPD this city turned out 10,000 strong to welcome the Oregon Centennial wagon train Saturday. Crowds lined the 2 1-2 mile parade route to watch the covered wagons rumble on to a weekend camp site at old Fort Casper. ' A unit of the Army Reserve 461st Engineering Company led the five - block long parade, the first major out of town event to hit Casper in three years." Following the Army unit was the ''1st Governor's Guard from Cheyenne. Twenty mounted sol diers from .j Casper, flanked the wagons as scouts and guards and the troopers' drum and bugle corps provided cadence to the tune of "She Wore a Yellow Rib bon." ' A parade of seven antique auto mobiles trailed the seven wagons through the streets of the city. Gov. J. j. Hickey met the wag on train on Highway 26 near the city limits and personally greeted each member of the caravan. Conaway, a graduate of Eastern Oregon College and a teacher for 10 years in the La Grande school system, has been appointed an assistant professor of education at Linfield college. McMinnville, Ore. Linfield president, Dr. Hurry L. Dillin, says that Conaway will begin his Linfield duties in the fall. Most of Conavvay's educational work has been in administration and remedial techniques. He has done graduate work at the Uni versity of Oregon, University of Washington, and University of Arizona. ' " " "' ' Alley Accident Causes Damage to Cars, Garage Two cars and a garage suffered damage last night in an accident in the. alley at 1303 Sixth St. An automobile, owned and oper ated by Bruce Simmons, 1709 Z Ave., struck the parked car of Ralph E. Gerards, 1303- Sixth, and the impact knocked Gerard's gar age about two feet off its founda tion.
