Floyd Davis Receives Promotion In Germany stuttuakt, Germany (AHT NC) Floyd D. Davis, 18, son of Mrs. Nellie Hudson, Enterprise, recently was promoted to special ist Four in Germany, where he is a member of the 124th Ordnance Company. ' An artillery repairman in the company in Stuttgart, Specialist' Davis entered the Army in Janu ary 1058, completed basic train ing at Fort Ord, Calif., and arriv cd in Europe last Decmber. Davis, son of Floyd W. Davis; Filer, Idaho, attended Filer High School. Pvt. Fred Van Decar To Complete Training FORT ORD, CALIF. (AHTNC) Army Pvt. Fred W. Van Decar, whose wife, Shirley, lives on Route 5, Eugene, is scheduled to complete advanced individual light weapons training June 12 at Fort Ord Calif. Van Decar, son of Fred M. Van Decar, North Powder, entered the Army last January and completed basic training at the fort. The 23-year-old soldier, whose mother, Mrs. Janet HI. Marx, lives in Lyle, Wash., attended Walla Walla (Wash.) High School. He was employed by the Star Lumber Co., in Eugene before entering the Army. ELGIN BRIEFS Mrs. L.' R. Ronald and Mike Schultze left Tuesday for Sacramento, where they will visit their father and step mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schultze. Mike will return home after a week's vacation to the home of his step father and moth er, Mr. and Mrs. John Williams. Tliee were a:i estimated 530 l.crsons attending. Lcs Wells was Master of Cere monies. He is pastor of the Christ ian Church. The Rev. Volncy John- i son, Church of the Nazarcnc, was ; choir director and song leader. Dick Lyman was organist and Mrs. Genevieve McCall was pian ist. , , . The presentation of the colors were by members of the VFW, Jim Hicks, J. L. Garrison, R. G. Clum, and Lloyd Trump. A choir or about 80 voices sang "Let All the People Praise Thee", with Dora Parsons the soloist. The congregation sang "He Keeps Me Singing", ami a pioneer choir sang "There's a Church in the Valley", with Mrs. Carmi Hugas soloist. Mabel Schuefer read the scrip ture. She is pastor of the Assembly of God. The LDS ladies choir sang "O Lord Most Merciful." The main choir sang "The Old Time Religion',-with Mrs. Mary Carper as soloist. The group then sang '"A mazine Grace''. Dr. Virgil Bolen of the Methodist Church, led the group in prayer. The choir again sang w ith Dean, Kennedy as solo ist. The Rev. Paul C. Moore of Athe na, gave the mssage. Rev. Moore was named the 1958 Father of the Year in Oregon. The benediction was given by Joseph Do le of the Imbler Assem bly .of God Church. Those attending expressed the wish that this be an annual affair. Following the church service a community picnic was held on the field near the river East of the stampede grourd. Mrs. Albert Johnson, Kctchican, Alaska. Mrs. Pearson has a compound fracture of the knee. She will re main in the Seattle hospital for several weeks. o Mr. and Mrs. Homer Pearson and Mrs. Earl O' Bryant attended the Baker graduation exercises Thursday evening. They saw Marsha Lillard graduate. She is the granddaughtr of Mr. and Mrs. Pearson and a great niece of Mrs. O'Bryant. Gravel has been put onto the street in front ot the cafe and down to E street. Th-y could then return to Bend with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Fordice have received word from their son, Keith, who is stationed in Germany. Murray of Rawlings, Wyo. Mrs. Murray is president of the ladies auxiliary, general com mittee, s Other guests present were Mr. and Mrs. L. G. McMahan. He is president of the Junior Old Timers Club and Mrs. Leonard Knight, president of the Junior Old Timers Auxiliary, both from La Grande. The program for the dinner in cluded a pantomime "Pink Shoe Laces," by Annette DcBole; two numbers, "He," and "Melody of Love," sung and played by An nette; and "Catch a Falling Star," sung by Linda Fihn. Samson will return to the pulpit at the First Presbyterian Church this Sunday after an absence of three Sundays, while he and his family attended sessions of the 171st General As sembly of the United Presbyterian Church in the USA held at In dianapolis, lnd. Rev. Samson was Minister Com missioner from Eastern Oregon Presbytery. He will use "Echoes of the General Assembly" as his sermon topic. The choir under direction of E.
