Subject was charm and poise. They also attended the re cital given by Mrs. Shrock. . Mrs. Vale Hagey of Nyssa came home- Wednesday to sp?nd the summer with her mother, Mrs. Ethel Childers. Mrs. Hagey has taught the past six years at Nyssa. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Garrett spent Memorial Day in Wallowa visiting relatives. - f ' Mr. and Mrs. Dud Murray and Mr. and Mrs. Edsol Wulf and two , daughters of Portland spent Me morial weekend in La Grande and Union visiting friends and rela tives. G. J. Bateman and son, Steven, and Bruce Kohler left Monday for Provo, Utah. They went to pick up Judy Bateman who has been attending school there. Elgin Eighth Graders Hold Exercises I V yl Louise Tuck Local Mothers Feted At Tea Junior High annual Mothers Tea was held in the school with Mary Virginia Speckhart as mistress of ceremonies. The theme was "Paris in Springtime." Carol Paris was the program chairman. Together they presented Mrs. Mary Heassler ! with an orchid corsage as a token of appreciation' of her service as Dean of Girls. This is her last year in that capacity. . The Junior High gym was decorated with pictures of France and Paris, also scenic views.' The stage was set as an outdoor cafe, with small tables covered with checked gingham. A mammoth drawing of the Eifel Tower was in the background. The program commenced with the Junior High school girls en semble singing two selections, Poor Butterfly," and "Molly Alone." This was followed by a Paris in Springtime Ballet, with Vickie Kohler as ballerina. Jenifer Smith and Susan Fisk presented a comedy pantomime to the recording of "Playmates." The program concluded with Sherry Stewart, soprano, singing Give Us This Day." . Mothers , were invited to view the various displays of handwork, artwork and manual arts, which were placed about the gym. Refreshments' of punch -and homemade cookies were served to the mothers in attendance, in the Home ec room. Look Who's Here' ELGIN (Special) Rev. Lester Wells gave the invocation for the e.ghth grade graduation exer cises. There were 43 receiving 'iplamas. Sandra Ilallgarth gave the 'Veleome address and also acted as Mistress of Ceremonies. The class history was read by John Tucker. Janice Yarington sv.ii Dee Ann Scoubes danced a modern dance. Phyllis Goin read "My Future." Kim Parsons read (he class prophecy. Marilyn Cheney gave a humorous read ing. The class Will was given by Judy Trump and Nancy Webster. itcnee Hebener played a piano Milo. Graduating Class Holds Final Party SUMMERVILLE (Special) The graduating class of .Imbler High School attended an overnight party at Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bakers log cabin at Kings X' Place on the mountain near Summerville. The party was held the evening of May 27, and the group returned with their advisor, Mrs. Ruby Skcen, to school the next day for commencement practice. While in the mountains, the students grilled steaks over a huge bonfire, and prepared the remaind er of the evening meal out-of-doors. In appreciation of the kind hos pitality of the Bakers, the Senior class presented them with a love ly hydrangea plant for their cabin. Egypt's favorite Imbler Girl Feted By Bridal Shower . SUMMERVILLE (Special) A bridal shower was held Friday in honor of Miss Bertha Hohstadt of Imbler. The shower which was held in the Imbler Legion hall, was given by Ruth Johnson, Leona Noyes, and Ruth Hunt. The shower was attended by many friends in the valley and La Grande area. . The a'ternoon was spent visiting and looking at the gifts. Katherine Johnson played sever al musical selections on the piano, and refreshments were served to the group.
