News Of North BY BARBARA ERWIN Observer Correspondent Mr. and Mrs. Norman Records and son pf Milton-Freewater visit ed her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Isaac of North Powder. Mrs. Records and son stayed with her parents for a week. A water main broke in North Powder Friday evening. The water was shut off around town for sev eral hours.' i o Faith Assemb'y. OrdT of Rain bow for Girls held their regular meeting May 25, with the newly installed Worthy Advisor, Denece McCanso, presiding. Honored guests at the meeting were Caroline Parsons from La Grande, Worthy Advisor for the Order of Rainbow in Oregon; Mrs; Elfna Ekley, La Grande, Grand Deputy for the Order of Rainbow in Oregon, and others. An addenda was given for Caro line. Several people spoke under Good of the Order. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Newman and family of Corvallis were in a car wreck near Hillsboro, on their way home from the funeral of their grandfather, Mr. Jack Gorham, Saturday. Mrs. Newman and one little girl were hospitalized in the Hillsboro hospital. . o Mr. and Mrs. Nolcn Higley and family of Burns brought her mother,-Mrs. Percy Nantz, back to her home 4" North Powder. Mrs. Nantz was ' immediately hos pitalized in a La Grande hospital with pneumonia. ' o Ten of the second grade girls helped celebrate the eighth birth day of Kathy Kaufman, Saturday afternoon. The afternoon was spent playing games,.' A novelty refresh ment was served.' ' .' o , Bud Morgan returned to his home after being ill in a La Grande hospital with pneumonia. The North Powder tub Scouts held their regular meeting Monday after school in the home of their leader,' Mrs. George Geils. The Cub Scouts completed their first 12 achievements and books. They will rejpeive "Jheirv awards. The members held a wiener roast in the Geils pasture, after the meet ing. " The 4-11 Cooking Club Girls met in the home of Mrs. George Geils last week. They prepared a cheese burger and potato fluffs. They also planned a dinner for their mothers which is to be held at a later date. - . Mr. and Mrs. Fred Christman traveled to Pilot Rock Sunday, where they visited their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. - Gerald Crawford, o Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Oestcrloh have purchased a new camp trailer. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Smith of Portland and Mrs. Mable Brock of Baker were recent visitors at the Guy Smith home. Mrs. Clyde Smith and Mrs. Brock are sisters of Mrs. Guy Smith. . o Mrs. Effie Widsom has been to Florence for the graduation of her grandson, Roy Sartam. The Wolf Creek Grange held their meeting Saturday evening at the grange hall in North Powder. After the program they gave Mrs. Bernice McCanse a surprise birth day party. o . The North Powder eighth grade graduation was held Thursday evening, May 21, at 8 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. There were 20 in the graduating class. They are: Linda Carr, Mma Geils, Gordon Gorham, Judith Isaac, George Roger Kirkland, James Maxwell, Alice Miller, Ju dith Monoghan, Mike Monroe, William Montgomery, James Pe ters, Elva Pfel, Richard Reeves, Patricia Rowett, Kenny Stultz, Michael Trindle, Tommy Tucker, Aria Umphrey, Leona Young, and Sherry Griffith. Monday evening the Powder Valley Chapter of OES 170 held a special meeting for the purpose of initiating Mr. and Mrs R,l Sorenson. o The last of the 1950 Badger pages arrived at school lost week and the cafeteria was a scene of mass confusion as the staff work ed to assemble the annual. Thev were finally finished and passed out and the last week of school was spent signing annuals.
