Before everybody hates me okay, okay, you do already I should confess that I enjoy the NBC-TV Dinah Shore Show more often than not. Its parts are as sembled with skill and some taste and, quite obviouslyt a good deal of hard work. It is usually a lit tle skimpy on comedy, but its singing and (lancing skirt the pre dictable with awesome frequency and the show is mounted with a good' deal of inventiveness. Sunday's closer was, with the exception of its comedy, a pretty typical Shore offering. It was af flicted with that gee-whiz, yum yummy air that backs me off from Shore shows, but this was more than balanced by its crisp ish pace, its striking sets and the freshness of its planning. I recall particularly Tony Ben nett seated on some steps, deliv ering a pop song in front of a series of oversized panels that looked like air-conditioned mon drians. This is the sort of thing color TV was made for. It is, I might add, the sort of delightful visual approach that the Shore show manages to manufacture on almost every outing. Except for a superb comic ex ercise by Elaine May and Mike Nichols, the rest of the show's content was pretty thin: Miss DAILY TV L0G 2KREM . m KXLY KHQ tv q TV O TV MONDAY 6:00 NeWHbeat News, 8iortH Boots ft Saddlea " Doug rcdwnrdft " :.10 Texas Rangers Nonio That Tuna Front Page 6:45 - H " 7:00 Polka-Go-Round The Texan Restless Gun 7:15 . But alj of it was coated with such a gloss that it was impossi ble qot to feel some attraction to ward the whole business. Miss Shore will, of course, re turn next season which is all to the good. Her cheery brcathless ness does abrade my pulp a lit tle, but she is in there pitching. For that we can be grateful. Too much of our TV fare is made up of limp rubbish and going-Ihrough-thc-molion formula. So, to you, Dinah a semi energetic ym kiss back. And hiive a nice vacation. The Channel Swim: The June 9 ABC-TV Sugarfoot show, "Wolf," will have two actresses playing the same role Connie Stevens and Judy Nugent. Miss Nugent had to be substituted for Miss Stevens was thrown by a mule and then underwent an appendectomy. Miss Nugent will be seen in all the close-up shots; Miss Stevens in the long ones. Cal Tinney, the old radio star, will guest on the CBS-TV Sam Levenson Show June 10. John Frankenheimer, one of TV's top directors he .turned out "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "The Browning Version" will direct his first Broadway play next fall, "The Midnight Sun." George Gobel and his wife, Alice, leave Tuesday for a five week breather in Europe Gobel will sandwich his vacation around two British TV appearances, June Observer, La Grande, Ore., Aff rf- T-ML B. u.jj, Wtt off. . i TPVA4.V, 1 by NIA Strtlee. Ann Loring, who plays "Tammy Forrest" in CBS-TV's Love of Life, has signed a one year con tract with the network. Arlene Francis will join the panel of CBS-TVs The Last Word June 14. NBC-TV is touting Luciana Paluz zi, star of next season's. Saturday night series Five Fingers, as a combination of Brigitte Bardot and Marilyn Monroe, which should make even the reruns bearable.
