The .La Crane High School
Tigers ground out a 40 -15 victory
over the Mermislon Bulldogs Sat
urday night, for the Tiger's second
straight Blue Mountain Conference
victory of the season. The game
proved to be almost n carbon
copy, of Friday night's defensive
duel wh'ch saw the Tigers emerge
victors in their first B.MC lilt this
yt-ar.
The Bulldogs grabbed an early
lead, and continued to build it up
throughout the first frame. Ilermis
lon playe da fast offensive game,
and worked a light zone defense
to contain the Tigers to only 8
points for the first quarter com
pared to 14 for the Bulldogs. ,
As the frayswung' into the sec
ond stanza, the Tigers sliced
through the Bulldogs defense, and
went out in front for the first time
in the game. The Bulldogs tried
unsuccessfully to repeat their ball
nawking tactics that worked for
Ihcm on Friday night, but they
quickly called it off when their
efforts resulted only in skinned
knees'" and elbows. The viistors
then regained their lead, which
they retained until the half when
they enjoyed a 2(1-22 advantage.

breezed to a 73-62 victory before
some 5,000 fans at Pan Pacific
auditorium Saturday night.
UCLA, now 8-5 for the season,
jumped off to a 5-0 lead and was
never headed.
The contest featured a tremen
dous scoring battle between Capt.
Lee Harman of the Beavers and
CaptV Walt' Torrencc of UCLA,
who were guarding each other.
Harman outscored Torrence, 16
to" 15, in the first half, but the
UCLA captain finished strong to
outpoint his rival, 28 to 25.
With IVi minutes remaining in
the first half, the Bruins, leading
23-20, went on a scoring spree
to increase their margin to 35
20. But the Beavers came fight
ing back and closed the gap to
39-34 at halftime.
In the' first four minutes of the
second half, with Torrence and
Denny Crum hitting steadily,
UCLA opened its lead to 48-38 and
then to 55-40 to wrap up the
garqe. .
