two types of meat cookery: Dry
heat for tender cuts and -moist
lieat for less tender cuts; Identi
fication and cookery methods 'of
meat cuts; USOA grading;- State
and Federal inspection of meat
and Die place of meat in the diet.
All the beef for both training
meetings was donated by the Union
Cdunty Cow Belles.

VFW Post Holds
Holiday Dinner
The local VFW Post 2990, held
their annual Christmas dinner
and tree for members and guests
on Saturday, . Dec. 13. Children
attending the affair received
presents and treats.
There were about 100 mem
bers, their families and guests,
attending the turkey and potluck
dinner.
Guests included Mr. and Mrs.
Glen Tetrick of La Grande and
VFW members from Elgin and
Union.
Knights Project
Awards Presented
' The Knights of Pylhius met in
the KP hall, Monday evening to
present the awards of their turkey
project. They were awarded to the
following; Ross Hearing, Elmer
Conrad, C. W. Daniels, W. M.
Peare and Walter Leonard.
Refreshments were served by
Keith Fuller and Bill Kirkman.

derson Sr. will observe their
Golden wedding anniversary at a
reception in the First Christian
church at La Grande, from 3 p.m.,
to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 28.
The couple were married Christ
mas Eve, 1908 at WyatU'W. V., and
moved to La Grande in 1925. An-'
derson operated a grocery store in
La Grande until 1943 at: which
time he entered the gas and oil
distribution business. He retired
July 15, 1957.

Miss Hazel Hickey had charge of
decorations, and Mr. ..and Mrs.

were in charge of the program
which was a musical program, in
cluding group carol singing. ' ;
A gift exchange for both young
sters and grown-ups, was held in
the form of musical chairs., ' 1
The ladies reported a nice part
of the evening was the men folks
doing the dishes. ,

their golden wedding anniversary,
with a reception in the homo of
their daughter and son-in-law,
Mr.-and Mrs. Vernon Long of
Portland. Assisting the Longs
was Mrs. Lincoln Pfciffcf. -t
Mr. and Mrs. Pfeiffcr now live
in Portland. They were, married
in La Grande Nov. 25 1908 where
he was an engineer for' the Un
ion Pacific lor a numberof years.
He later went into the grain bus
iness in Wallowa and union coun
ties, moving to Portland in 1929.
They have two children, Maxine
Long, of Portland and ..Lincoln
Pfeiffcr of Salem. They, also
have four grandchildren and one
great granddaughter.
