Thousands of tons of natural rub
ber will probably be available
for shipment from the Dutch In
dies to the United States and
other world markets almost im
mediately after the islands' lib
eration. The Dutch East Indian govern
ment already has brought eqiup
mcnt for a production of 150,000
tons of rubber annually, and it
is expected that considerable
quantities will bo available as
soon as the Japanese are driven
out.
Large-scale exports are expect
ed to begin within about three
months after the island's com
plete liberation.
As for the native populations,
tho outlook is for an Increasing
.amount of self-government in the
island. When Holland declared
war on Japan after Pearl Har
bor, there was no longer any "co
lonial" relation between the In
