covery on the stock market today
after a period of irregularity.
Trading increased.
Rails registered gains ranging
to more than a point in Santa Fe,
Atlantic Coast Line, and South
ern Pacific. Norfolk & Western
rose 2 points from its low.
Strength in steels with U. S.
steels up a point and Bethlehem
at a new high for the year, fea
tured the industrials. Chrysler
rose move than points and Willys-Overland,
gained nearly 2
points.
The improvement In the gen
eral list came when the earlier
irregularity failed to generate
any selling of significance. .Some
week-end; short-covering helped
swell volume.

House Approves of
$250,000 For FEPC
WASHINGTON, July 12 (UP)
The house today approved B
$250,000 appropriation for the
fair employment practice com
mittee. The money could be
ured either to terminate its func
tions or to continue operations
pending approval of additional
funds.
Approve! of the appropriation
was by voice vote. A motion to
specify that the money be used
for liquidation oniy was dofeat
cd by a roll clt vote of 188 to
118 after an hour of heated de
bate. The house action indicated
fairly prompt passage of th!
$752,000,000 war agencies bill
that has been tied up for several
weeks as the senate and house
wrangled over FEPC.
The senate voted $250,000 io
continue FEPC functions, which
the house ignored until today.
And the senate had refused to
take any further action on the
war agencies bill until the house
voted by FEPC.
