U. S. Army to Stop
Supplying Food to
Liberated Europe
WASHINGTON, July 12 (UP)
The U. S. army will slop sup
plying food to civilians in liber
ated Europe Aug. 31, it was
learned today. .
The action will save millions of
dollars for American taxpayers,
but it is not expected to mean
more food for civilians because
purchase and distribution at
about the same level will be
handled by the liberated govern
ment themselvs.
At th same time , it was dis
closed the United States, con
trary to earlier announcements,
will continue lend-lease ship
ments of meat to Russia during
July, August and September.
The newly approved food allo
cations for the Soviet includes
25,000,000 pounds of meat in the
form of Toshonka, a canned pork
and beef combination. No other
V. S. meat will go abroad during
the three-month period except to
the armed forces.
Scheduled Russian shipments
are 25.000,000 pounds of flour,
5,000,000 pounds of butler or
ether oil, 2,000,000 pounds of
cheese, 4,000.000 pounds of dry
peas, 2,590,000 pounds , of dqhy-.
dialed vegetables and 2,000,000
pounds of dried milk.

Paper Mill Reveals
Plans of Expansion

disclosed today plans for a post

the expenditure of $15,000,000 in

new products in thef northwest.
The corporation, which oper
ate five pulp and paper mills and
owns extensive forest properties
in the Pacific northwest, will
start the program as soon as
materials arc available.
More than 45,000 tons of coated
maeazine paper a year will be
manufactured at the West Linn,
Ore., plant, company officials an
nounced, the first time this
grade of paper has been made in
large quantities in the northwest.
They added it will mean importa
tion of clay from GeGorgia and
England, which will contribute to
forost conservation.
Output at a mill at Camas,
Wash., will be nearly doubled
with facial tissues being made
there for the first time on the
Pacific coast.

Covered Workers
