Of La Grande Dies
Relatives'-"and friends in La
Grande today received news of
the death in Portland Tuesday
evening of Mrs. Moina A. Sargent
Marks, long ' a resident of La
Grande but recently of Portland.
Mrs. Marks was the only sister
of Mrs. B. F. Wylde of La Grande,
who was called to Portland Mon
day by the critical illness of Mrs.
Marks. '- -
Suiviving in addition to the
sister here, are a son, Lt. Howard
A. Sargent, U. S. navy, a daugh
ter, Mrs. Helen Sargent Martin
dale, and two grandsons, Philip
Murray of Portland, and William
D. Sargent of Pendleton.
Mrs. MaTks'- younger ion, Ma
jor Morrell5p? Sargent, was killed
a few months ago while on duly
with the army air forces in the
south Pacific.

Seattle Threatened
By Meat "Strike"
SEATTLE, June .14 (UP)
Strike threats by Seattle and
Bremetton independent retail
meat dealers brought both cities
to the verge of complete meat
famine today, with 90 Bremer
ton independents prepared to
walkout within two weeks unless
meat supplies are increased.
The strike threat, issued by
B. T. Renard, president of the
Bremerton-Kitsap IVfeat ; Dealers
association, at Bremerton, was
approved by the Majority of 150

Moscow Meeting
May Find Solution

mer Premier Stanislaw Miko-
lajczyk of the London exile cabi
net probably will be offered the
premiership of a new Polish un
ity government at the Moscow
conference, a dispatch from the
Soviet capital said today.
Representatives of the Soviet
supported Polish provisional gov;
ernment in Warsaw, headed by,
President Boleslaw Bierut of the,
Polish national council, arrived

unemployment compensation al
lowances in Oregon will be in
creased 20 per cent, beginning

Maximum yearly benefits may
go up from 30 to 50 per cent, us
a result of action taken by the
1945 legislature in raising the
payments and limitations. The
waiting period for each claimant

Under the new law benefits

ning from $10 to $18 weekly. The
limit which may be received in
