The stock market moved up
strongly today after a faltering
start and all sections of the list
hit now high ground since mid
1937. First hour selling was Inter
preted in Wall street as only "a

traders showed little disposition
to follow the opening decline new
buying developed and spread

Clothing that may save the
lives of many destitute men,
women and children of devas
tated Europe has been prepared
for shipment at the La Grande
depot of the United national
clothing campaign, where to date
women, volunteers have sorted
and packed 3,000 pounds of arti
cles of various kinds contributed
by residents of tho city.
Members of the auxiliary of
the local lodge of Eagles devoted
yesterday to work at the receiv
ing depot in the L. C. Smith
building on Depot street, and
next Tuesday the work will be
taken up by the auxiliary to the
veterans of foreign wars.

co-chairmen of the Union county .
campaign, announced they expect
first contributions from other
communities to arrive within the
next week. Meanwhile, they
urged that county residents make
every effort to get their cast-off
clothing and shoes in to the de

that it be sent to the cleaner

suitable for someone to wear,
as we have noither cleaning nor
