Grande with an 84 score. La Grande
won the tournament with 27 A points

It Is being announced today that the
time for' playing the qualifying
rounds of' the spring handicap- has
been extended to Thursday, Friday

Hope chapter Order of the Eastern
Star who were present at the last
meeting for the season held last eve
ning In the Masonic ball, were great
ly interested In the recent Grand
Chapter - proceedings as brought . to
them in an informal yet informative
way by Mrs. L. B. Moe, worthy mat
ron, Mrs. Ella Russell, secretary and
Mrs. H. J. Hitter, associate matron.
Also much of the enthusiasm of the
recent Grand Assembly of the Order
of Rainbow for Girls at Albany, wps
given by Miss Elizabeth Milne, one
of the local delegates, who was glvon
the office of Grand Lovo for next
year. .
A musical program followed the
stated meeting, Leo Cullen Bryant
presenting three violin numbers, with
Mrs. Parkinson furnishing the plnno
accompaniment. Refreshments con
cluded the evening.
Picnickers Are
Driven Indoors
The Mlses Edith Darby, Paul no Day
and Madeline Larson entertained
a group of friends at an indoor picnic
Tuesday evening at the John Miller
home, where the first two named are
living this summer. The affair had
been planned originally for the Cove
swimming pool, but weather condi
tions necessitated a change. Follow
ing the dinner, the evening was spent
in informal conversation with some
plnying bridge. Mrs. C. A. Speer, of
Washington, Iowa, was a special guest.

Tho attendance at the meeting of
Crystal Rebekah lodge' last evening
was very good and the- meeting, in
teresting. Plans were made for the
memorial service which the Rebekahs
will hold in conjunction with the Odd
Fellows Sunday evening at 8:00
o'clock ot the temple. .The 'order
has been having a bean1, bag throwing
contest for the last several meetings,
and this having been concluded the
losing side furnished the refresh
ments Wednesday evening which were
pronounced exceptionally good.
Friendship Club
Has Meeting
Members of the Friendship club
spent a most enjoyable - afternoon
Wednesday with Mrs.- 8. C. Happer
sett. In addition to the opportunity
afforded for visiting,, there were , two
surprises which added much to the
party. The first was the surplse visit
of Mrs. Bynum. a former member, one
time manager of the La Grande
Business college. The second was the
presence of Mrs. Harvey St.- Johns,
also n club member, who came from
her home in Huntington in time
for yesterday's party.
K. D. Club Has
Quilting Party
. Mrs. Alta Wlnburn and Mrs. Ella
Baker entertained, the K. D. club in
a unique way Wednesday by taking
them to Ladd Canyon to the home of
Mrs. Banton where a quilt was In the
frames and a quilting bee engaged in.
Ab 'noon a dinner was served to 16
members and four visitors. At a short
business meeting after the dinner,
Mrs. Laura Winburn was . elected
president, Mrs. , Hazel Starmer, vice
president, Mrs. Agnes Winburn, sec
retary treasurer. The rest of the day
was spent with games and music and
when the. group returned home In
the evening it was felt that this had
been one of the outstanding meet
ings of the club year.

MAN TRAMPLED BY

of this place waa badly -Injured one
day this week, when he assisted a
neighbor remove a ring from the nose
of a puernsey bull. While the neigh
bor, Mr. McOrtor had gone to the
house, the bull got Mr. Maglll down,
butted him, trampled him, breaking
three ribs besides causing other pain
ful injuries. He was removed to tho
hospital for attention and care.
