WASHINGTON Politicians t In
Washington took more than a casual
interest In Alabama's gubernatorial
run-off election from which former
Governor Bibb Graves emerged suc
cessfully. The reason was that for the first
time In years the Ku Klux Klan was

was assailed by opposing forces as
having the tacit support of the Klan.
He a:id his opponent in the run

the moit Intensive campaigns in re
cent years in Alabama, speaking In
every section of the state. It wm the
first run-off gubernatorial primary
the state has had In more than 20

Whether Graves' election means the

Nomination of Sherman Mlnton,
lawyer and World war veteran, as the
Democratic candidate to oppose Re
publican Arthur Hcblnscn for United
States senator from Indiana in the
fall elections opens an interesting an
gle In the Hocaler state political sit
uation. .
Robinson ha3 based his career In
the senate largely around the fact
that he has been the champion of
the cause of former service men. He
has been probably the most out
spoken man in the senate against the
administration' economy act which
made such drastic reductions In vet
erans' compensation.
Whether Robinson, who lists In his
official biography that hg was suc
cessively first lieutenant, captain and
major of Infantry with overseas duty
during the World war, will suffer by
having an ex -soldier opponent re
mains to be seen.
Much more than this, however, en
ters Into the Indiana senatorial fight.
Those familiar with Indiana, politics
see possibilities of bitter factional
strife among the Democrats as a re,
suit of Minton's nomination,.
Generally regarded as the candidate
of Governor McNutt, Minton may lose
Important party support. The faction
controlled by Earl Peters of Fort
Wayne, an unsuccessful contestant
for the nomination, are bitter foes of
the governor. -
Mississippi's 'Three-Way
Political Insiders are speculating as
to what Pat Harrison will do In the
Mississippi three-way senatorial fight
this year. The best Information Is
that It all depends on what Huey
Long does.
Ras Collins, representative in con
gress former Governor Bilbo and
Senator Stephens are in the race. So
far, Harrison, who doesn't come up
for re-election until 1036, has shown
Inclination to be neutral.
