Miss Lorna Lef fel Reaches Sixth
Birthday Anniversary And Gives
Lovely Party at Riverside Park
Miss Lorna Leflel. elder daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Leffel has
attained the responsible age of six
years and Saturday 23 of her young
friends were her guesta at a picnic
birthday; party at Riverside Park.
Lorna was especially delighted to
have her kindergarten, teacher, Mrs,
Hodgln, present Xor the event and al
so Mrs. Lindsey. Other adults who
assisted Mrs. Leffel with the enter
tainment were Mrs, Robert Carey and
Mrs. Chester Thompson. There were
games and refreshments. The birth
day cake which was the center of
attraction was a gift of Lorna's aunt,
Mrs. Ralph Comstock, of near Cove,
and It had been decorated by another
of her good friends, Mrs., Tom Conk
lln, also of Cove. The favors were
clown dolls. Lorna received many
pretty gifts from her guests during
the afternoon.
Hope Chapter To
Hear Program
Tho regular meeting of Hope Chap
ter No. 13. Order of the Eastern
Star will be held Wednesday evening.
May 9 at the Masonic hall. Follow
ing the regular session, over which
the worthy matron, Mrs. L. B. Moe
will preside, a musical program by
pupils of Florence Lynch Miller will
be presented. Tills will consist of a
string ensemble of 23 pieces and also
three soloists.
Miss Joan Bouvy
Is Party Hostess
Mrs, Lee Bouvy took a company
of 21 girls to Riverside Park Satur
day afternoon in honor of her daugh
ter, Joan's 12th birthday anniversary.
It was a very splendid party with
games for a few hours and then the
lunch which Mrs, Bouvy served,
rounding out a complete afternoon.

Club to Meet
The Neighbors of Woodcraft Sew
ing club will meet Thursday after
noon. May 10 at 2 o'clock with Mrs.
Yeake. Mi's. Lucie Buell, Mrs. Agnes
Andrews and Mrs. Anna Shultz will
bo assisting hostesses. All members
are asked to bring their needles and
thimbles.
The next meeting, of the lodge will
be held in tho I. O. O. P. hall on
Tuesday evening, May 15,

at the homo of Miss Verna Lee Han
ford last evening attending the
meeting of the Queen Esther Circle
of the First Methodist church. The
potluck supper was served at 6 :30

lowed, with Miss Evelyn Ballard In
charge. During the business meet
ing, the girls planned for their next
meeting which will be with Miss Jose
phine Fisher at her homo on Lower

Poppy Sale To
Be Discussed
The American Legion Auxiliary will
hold its regular meeting Wednesday
evening at 8 o'clock In the Sacajawea
Inn. Mrs. Hazel Graham who has
charge of the poppy sale which will
be on May 26 this year will discuss
her plans for the sale and will also
announce the day when the crosses
are to be made. The auxiliary each
year places a cross covered with pop
pies on the grave of each deceased
ex-servlco man, and of deceased
members of the auxiliary. There are
over 60 such In Union county, it Is
-reported. There were 600 popples
left over from last year's sale and
these will be used for the crosses
this year. The auxiliary has pur
chased 2500 for sale this year, and
they- are hoping, through the co-operation
of La Grande people to dis
pose of all of them.

Pendleton, lruto night In a Pendleton
hospital. The bnbe weighed eight
pounds and four ounces.
