One of the moat difficult transportation problems In connection with tho construction of Boulder Dam has
been suiveu rjy me uce oi in. lartjest vniiii-r vvkT built, .Clmmontl un 32 suud luiuvr wiva iwuiiufuubuiuu by
le Goodyear Tiro on J Itubber Co. The Gargantuan equipment weighs approximately 41 tons and Is designed
to carry a maximum pay-load of an addltlonnl 200 tons.
The trailer Is used to haul sections of steel tu,blng, viryln? In diameter from eight end ono-half feet to 30
feet, over a tortuous mountain road from the'"prpe fabrication plant to tho dam site, a mile and a half below,
where they are bclnij assembled by The Six Companlos. contractors for the dam project.
Width of tho trailer Is 22 feet and Its over-all length Is moro than 37 feet. It requires turning radius
of 100 feet but is so constructed that It can ie towed from either end, thus eliminating the necessity of pro
viding such a large turning area at each of the operating terminals. Largo tractors provldo tSie motive power.
Each of the four corners of the gigantic trailer la supported by two axles, and on each end of each axle
Is a wheel with two 28x14 Ooodyoar solid tires. This provides 448 Inches of tire width distributed over the
16 wheels. Tho normal capacity of each tire Is' 10,200 pounds which with an overload allowance of 25 per cent,
because of the flow speed at which the trailer travels, assures a maximum total tire capacity of 407.725 pounds.
