Founders' Day Observed At
Meeting of La Grande City Council
Of P. T. A. Yesterday Afternoon
Founders day was observed by the
La Grande City Council of Parent
Teacher Associations yesterday after
noon at the Sacajawca Inn. Each
school presented a part of the pro
gram after which tea was sewed with
Mrs. Herbert Evans and Mrs. Stella
Ingle presiding at the tea table, which
was decorated with a centerpiece of
daffodils and yellow candles in green
holders. A birthday cake whs decor
ated with 37 candles representing the
37th birthday of the association,
Assisting In serving were Mrs. H. W.
Fredericks, Mrs. F. L. Ralston. Mrs.
H. J. Leonard, Mrs. Pete Troutman,
Mrs. Guy Miller, Mrs, Lewis Wetzel,
Mrs. Gene Walker and Mrs, Fred Read.
The program Included:
"Spring Song" and "P. T. A. Song",
by a girls Bextet from Central school.
"Old Black Joe," "Old Folks at
Home" and a specialty number by the
harmonica band from Greenwood.
"Juanlta" and "Believe Me. If All
Bongs popular In the '90s, High school
mixed quartet.
"Of Interest in February," a play
by Willow school.
"Holly, Holy, Holy" and an old
English folk song, by the second vio
lin class taught by Mrs. Leo Miller
at Ackerman.
"Jack and the Bean Stalk", a musi
cal skit, by Rlverla.

Coming Friday
Mrs. Rollo Albright,' district officer
of the Women's Missionary society
of the Methodist Church South, will
be n visitor in La Grande Friday. At
a called meeting of the local society
Monday at the church, plans were
made for her visit.
An all-day meeting will be held in
the bftspment of the church with a
potluck luncheon served at noon.
Arrangements also were" made to
participate in the week of prayer to
open Feb. 10 and which will be ob
served by all missionary societies of

Mrs. J. C. Camp was a recent

of Wosau, Wis., was a guest.

Mrs. Frank McJConnon, of near
Imbler, returned home today from
Condon where she spent the past
week at the homo of her son, Russell
McKonnon and family. Mrs. Mc
Kennon went to Condon on receiving
word that her daughter-in-law was
111 and after she Improved, the young
son In the McKennon family was ill
for a few days.

has had such marvellous luck with
lambs this season that he has pur
chased a flock of sheep from T. B.
;ohnson, about 125 head. The Chad
wicka nad only a few sheep but when
they commenced to lamb thj first
three ewes produced eight lambs. The
rest of the ewes did not do so well
but at that there are more than 100
per cent lambs.

Mrs. Josle Blockland Bach who
spent several days at Gooding, Ida.,
when her husband, Rev. Walter Bach
was 111, has returned to her pastorate
at North Powder. Mr. Bach Is much
Improved. Mr. Bach who has been
pastor at North Powder Is having this
year free to complete his collegiate
work at Gooding college.

MAN PASSES
AT RICHLAND
BAKER, Ore. (Special) Charles
Richard Coger, resident of Richland
for 22 years, died Monday from the
effects of paralytic strokes.
Mr. Coger was born In Oskaloosa.
Kansas, November 10, 1866, and
moved to La Grande In 1880. Mr.
Coger, who was a shoemaker, went
to Richland In July, 1011, He was
married to Jennie H. Holmes In
Wclser, September 26, 1022. Mr. Coger
was a member of the I. O. O. F. and
Knights of Pythias lodges In Rich
land.
