Three phases of modern literary ex
pression were presented Saturday In
a program given by the Literature
group of the American Association
of University Women at a general
meeting of the organization at 13:30
o'clock at the Sacajawea Inn. Miss
Helen 8. Moor discussed magualnes.
Miss Kate Houx spoke on poetry,
and Miss Mildred Hawks worth re
viewed "Shlu Hu Chuan", a 13th cen
tury Chinese novel translated by Pearl
S. Buck.
Musical numbers were presented by !
the High school girls' sextet, directed
by Andrew Loney Jr., director of
public school music.
Out-of-town guests at the luncheon
were Mrs. D. E. Richards, of Union, i
and Miss Gertrude Turner, of Baker. I
Three members from Intbler, Margaret
Callahan, Gertrude Oehler and Mrs.
W. E. Emerlck, also were present. :
Mrs. Fred E. Jones was a guest.
Plans for the fashion tea which
will be held on March 3 at the Saca
jawea Inn were outlined by Miss Jean
White, president.
Miss Thelma Whaley, program
chairman announced the program.
Relief Society
To Hold Meeting
The theological lesson for February
will be led toy Mrs. Ada Fullmer to
morrow afternoon when the Second
Ward Relief society of the , L. D. 8.
church meets at 3 o'clock at the
chapel. The teacher's topic for the
month will be presented by Mrs. WH
ma Anderson at a meeting at 1:30
o'clock.

Miss Dorothea Keeney was compli
mented on the occasion of her birth
day anniversary Saturday when her
mother, Mrs. H, S. Keeney, entertain
ed at the Keeney home at 1908 Ad
ams avenue. Each tf the little gueats
received favors during the afternoon,
after which Ice cream and birthday
cake was served.

Holds Meeting
An enjoyable afternoon was spent
recently when the L. S. to the B. of P.
and E. social club met at the home
of Mrs. Ed Strleff. After sewing and
visiting a luncheon was served by
the hostess, assisted by Mrs. E. R.
Head and Mrs. Ray Cook. Mrs. Cran
dall was a guest.
The hostess for the next meeting
will be announced later.

istic experts here have a new, square
head projectile which goes contrary
to the accepted laws of streamlining.
It Is a rifle bullet which can be
speeded up by 120 miles an hour
200 feet a second through use of
its extra resistance to The air. It is
an exception, moreover, that it ex
pected by ballistic men to prove the
rule that top speeds He In stream
lines.
The bullet Is lead, .22 caliber, and
sawed off across tho tip. But the
tip Is not an entirely,! flat plane.
Stuck on its surface. Ilka a sealing
wax stamp. Is a small, circular pla
teau of lead, a low projection called
the tit.

The experts think this projection
has something to do with thi speed
of the bijjlet. It may be a partial
streamlining, they say, and If It Is
they expect some day to be able to
round it up Into the conventional
blunt form to secure possibly more
speetj.
The extra velocity of the new bul
let comes f:-om the use of more
powder, and the fact that It main
tains its accuracy when fired with
the extra charge. The conventional
shape of bullet would take the high
er speed, but would lose accuracy.
TMe flat top adds accuracy and
hitting power. In lncreaseo? hitting
power the tiny, flat surface is said
to be equivalent to slapping water
with the opn hand Instead of poking
a finger Into the liquid.
The bodies of game animals, being
largely water, are hit with such ex
tra force as to knock them over.
The ordinary .22 bullet frequently
pierces an animal completely with
out stopping Its flight.
Drills a Clean Hole
This caliber is used more fo tar
get practice than for hunting, and
the flat nose makes a perfect round
hole in target paper. When two
conical .22 bullets strike within a
fraction of an inch in the same spot
in the bull's eye, event the experts
hi.i-e difficulty in deciding whether
the;were one or two hits.
Tbt flat tops leave no chance for
uncertainty, for their spin makes a
precise cutting edge of the blunt end
and drills a perfect sphere. 'Not only
in paper but in anything this bul
let Is capable of piercing its entering
hole is round and clean.

autopsy on the brain of the slain
Rev. Gaylord V. Saunders of Wabash,
Ind., May be undertaken to determine
truth of his widow's signed statement
to police that she paid 910 to have
him killed because his mind was
falling an 3 she feared for the lives
of herself and-her son, aged 10 and
13.
In her statement to Police Chief
Michael F. Morrissey, Mrs. Neoma
Saunders, 35. said she gave Theodore
Mathers, 10-year-old roommate of
her husband, the money to hire some
one to kill him, but that the youth
deemed to do It himself.
Mathers, Morrissey said, admitted
buying a gun for 98.59. and Bhoot-
Ing Saunders In the back of the head
early last Friday morning. The body
of the former Methodist Episcopal
minister was found in his automobile
in front of his rooming house here.
Funeral services for Saunders were
held at Wabash Sunday in the church
where a week before he had preached
his farewell sermon.
Meanwhile Indianapolis police scan
ned statements of those implicated In
the case, and letters of Mathers and
Mrs. Saunders, to piece out the bi
zarre slaying plot.

dent of Saunders In an embalming
school, and Masil Roe, 19, from
Mathers home town of Coalmont,

tend special facilities for returning
them to this country.
The action was based on consular

were living In poverty and that many
of them had been abandoned by their
Chinese husbands.
