Probably the one thing that can be said alxnit the govern
ment's new gold policy, without fear of contradiction, is that
the ordinary man simply does not understand what it is all
about. We have suffered, perhaps from too many experts;,
For months now the pundits have been showering us with
good advise on money, and the more we have read of it, ,ttye
more confused we have grown.
The government finally has acted definitely and decisively
and .the result seems to be encouraging to business; but as
for understanding precisely how and why the policy is going
to affect our liveswell, most of us might as well try1 io
assimilate the more recondite phases of the Einstein theory.
About all we can do just now, in default of getting this un
derstanding, is to meditate on the strange function that
.this yellow metal has exercised throughout history, and or
