On Saturday was a very happy
event for Mrs. Rachel Hallgarth when
ladles of Pumpkin Ridge met at the
home of Mrs. Al Hug hi honor of
Mrs. Kallgarth's 86th birthday.
, A very tempting dinner was served
at noon, each guest bringing some
thing to help out with the meal. Mrs.
Ray Hug baked the large birthday
cake. v i
Mrs. Hallgarth, who makes her
home with her daughter, Mrs. Mary
Rlggs, Is enjoying the best of "health,,
reading and sewing without the need
of glasses. ,
1 Many times during the summer
months Mrs. Hallgarth walks two or
two and a half miles over the hills
ito visit neighbors.

Season Centering Around
'Members of Younger Set
Social activities during the Christ
mas holiday season have , centered
around members of the younger set
and among those feted were Miss Jean
Botsford, of Portland, the guest of
Miss Mary Jane Johnson during the
holidays, and Mies Laura Mae Kopp,
daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Clarence
A. Kopp who Is enjoying a two weeks
vacatlog from St. Paul's school In
Walla Walla where she Is a student.
Yesterday Miss Johnson entertain
ed at luncheon and bridge at the
home of her parents, Mr, and Mrs.
B. B. Johnson., .
Miss Marian Chausse also invited
12 girls for bridge yesterday after
noon at the home of her parents, Mr.
and N Mrs. I V. Chausse.
A lovely dinner party was held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Hen
nlng last evening when Miss Dorothy
Henning, their daughter, entertained
16 members of the Qatusl Camp Fire
group.

Miss Jean Botsford, of Portland,
. who Is the guest of Miss Mary Jano
Johnson, was complimented Wednes
day at a bridge luncheon at the home
of Miss Johnson's parents, Mr., and
Mrs. B. B. Johnson. Luncheon was
. served at one o'clock after which the
tables were arranged for bridge.

Kopp, who Is spending the Christ
mas holidays here with her parents,
Rev. and Mrs. C. A. Kopp, were pre
sented with awards.

day at the home of his mother, Mrs.
Mabel Gray, In La Grande. Mrs. Gray

HAS PROGRAM
IMBLER (Special) Christmas was
celebrated In the usual form at the
Imbler High school last Friday. The
program was given in the afternoon
lit which both the grade and high
school took part. Recitations were
given by Shirley Vee Wilson, Billy
Howell, Jene Ann Conrad, Lucille
Keenan and Alfred Whitney. Songs
were sung by the following: first and
second grade, the High school boys
trio. Melba Westenskow, Letha and
Alvln Bushman: and by'-the High
school girls glee club. The plays
were: "Santa's Shop" by the first and
second grades. "Christmas Vacation"
by the third, seventh nnd eighth
grades. A harmonica duet was played
by Verna Graymeal and Emma Coe.
Programs were given on Christmas
eve In the L. D. 8. and M. E.
churches. Each received a large au
dience, refreshments being served at
the close of the program.
