A statd'pollce chase that resulted
In ' victory as far as- the- capture- waa
concerned, left officers today with
out eluee as to the whereabouts of
William f Bawen, one of several- men
Who-escivped -from -the state asylum
some -weeks ago.
Bowen was reported to bo passing:
cheeks in the mid-west signed by the
name of John Burton. So when a
"John Biuton" check was passed tn
Pleasant Valley search-was started
and State Policeman Jack Waldcn ar
rested the man at Crown Pom- Sat
urday night. Burton spent all Friday
night In La Grande at Johanon's
auto camp. Officers were not not! (led
fibout the check until Saturday after
noon and In only a few hours time
picked up Burton, who was travelling
by automobile;
However, reports received by state
police here- were to ' the effect that
the man arrested really was John
Burton- and had no connection with
the Oregon fugitive.
