society has set the first Wednesday in
December as the date for their an
nual bazaar and dinner. The women
have been busy on their prelimin
aries for this event, which Is looked
forward to by the entire community
as well as valley people. This, and
other matters were discussed at an
all day meeting of the aid held Wed
nesday at the borne of Mrs. Minnie
McDannel. i

The Imb!er girls volleyball team
lost a close and exciting contest with
the girls from Cove High school here
Wednesday. The teams were very
evenly matched and the contest was
In doubt until the final whistle of
the fifth and deciding game. Friday
afternoon, however, -the girls came
back strong and. decisively defeated
the Union girls. This game, also on
tho Imbler court, gave Imbler the
series with Union two games to one.
These games completed the volleyball
season for the Imbler girls and they
are now anxious to start basketball.
The annual Father -Son banquet is
to be held Nov. 23 In the ag. room.
Earl R. Coo ley. state supervisor of -the
Future Farmers will be tlve speaker.
Tom Wlllet. of Wallowa, ex-president
of the F. F. A. will be one of the
principal' speakers.
Mary Hazen has been absent from
school fos some time on account of

grange held a social meeting Satur
day evening, with a large crowd pres
ent. A program. In charge of Mrs.
Joe Fisher, consisted of: singing by
the audience; two solos by Mr. Melvln
Crow; talks by James H. Leonard, j
master of the South Fork grange, Joe
Fisher, pomona master and Supt.

matters pertaining to grange activities
and community benefit and social
features in which the grange la an
Important factor. Games provided en
tertainment for the balance of the
evening. A supper was served by the
grange women.

ler entertained the members of the
Fun and Joy Bridge club at her home
Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Howard
Chaffee was the only guest. Three
tables of cards were at play and in .
place of the usual high and low score
prizes a prize was given for the high j
score at each table, the fortunate ;
ones being Mrs. W. J. Hallmark. Miss ;
Besse Kelley and Miss Vina Conley.

Conklin, gave him a party. At the'
party were Peggy La Vlolette, Keith
Hallmark, Clifford and Anita Towle,
Paul Edward and Ordeth Oorham,
Jimmy Chaffee, Gay and Dicky Conk
lin. Roderick French was 111 and Don
ald Hefty was just recovering from
the chicken-pox so was not eligible, j

cus, with a big tent and a parade of ,
animals mode from such familiar i
things as prunes, raisins, marshmal- i
lows, etc., while In the tent was the
birthday cake all decorated and bear-
lng proudly aloft Its two candles. The
refreshment plate was adorned with ;
a team and wagon made from gum i
drops, animal crackers, and graham!
crackers, and carrying a cup of Ice ,
cream. It was voted to be "Some:

POPCORN BALLS
3 qts. popped com
1 cup sugar
1-3 cup white corn syrup
1 cup water
1-4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. lemon or vanilla.
Discard all imperfect kernels and
put the popped com Into a large
pan. Cook sugar, syrup and water
to the medium-crack stage (280 de
grees P.). Add navorlng and salt.
Pour over the corn, stirring with a
spoon bo that all kernels will be
evenly coated.. Shape tho com Into
balls, and wrap In waxed paper.
Wrapped in yellow cellophane and
decorated with black paper cutouts,

autumn season.
