could sit back with a smile of satisfaction; we all would be

But will trie people rise above petty things that may clogl

if they don't, well, our future can again be shadowed with
clouds.

MUCH ABOUT NOTHING
Much about nothing thaf s the way Sally Rand, notori-
, ou fan dancer, probably sizes it up: That's the right phrase
ology, at least. It's the nothing- she wears about the much
of her when she'does' her Tei-psichorean take-off, that keeps
getting her into' the' courts' First in Chicago and then in
New York, John Law has frowned on her "artistic" endeavors.
The crowds didn't object, 'tis true, but officials and those
j who have the grave and weighty responsibility of protecting
the people s morals were much, taken aback. We would even
; hazard to guess that some of the officials may have studied
the situation thoroughly before taking action. ,
We've heard much about her fan dance, and about the
other shapely dancers who have folowed her lead and shed
their scant raiment for quivery fans, but we've never been
fortunate enough to see 'her trip the light fantastic. So we
can't qualify as first line critics.
But we have a suggestion and we believeit would satis
fy all concerned. . '
Briefly, let Mr. Magistrate sentence Sally to ten days in a
nudist colony. Then let the officials who caused her arrest
buy themselves some smoked glases and, when out walking,
caiefuly remain on the shady' side of the street.
Sally could bare herself to her heart's content, and the
ones she has been shocking; would have some peace.
And the rest of us could read something else on the front
pages. .
