Aid society at North Powder are busy
at present with their plans and prep
arations for the annual county aid
convention which 1b to be held at
Powder Thursday of next week, Oct.
12. This is an event which is eager
ly looked forward to by the several
aid societies oyer Union county and
is invariably a red-letter day. The
business meeting begins In -the morn
ing, there Is a potluck dinner at
noon, with a program in which all
the aids participate In the afternoon.
Mrs. R. F. Tyler, of La Grande, Is
the county president.

Friends and relatives in the north
end of the valley have recently been
informed of the recent marriage of
Miss Doshla Graybeal, of Imbler, and
Harold Oliver, of Dry Greek, which
was celebrated at Stevenson, Wash.
Their future plans have not been
learned. Both are very well known

old being the elder son of Mr. and
Mrs. Burt Oliver, and both having
been graduated from the Imbler
Hugh school.
Visits Sister
Earl Smith, of Medfprd arrived In
Cove Friday afternoon for a visit
with his sister, Mrs. B. W. Peterman,
being on a vacation frpra his duties
on thp railroad. Mr. Smith has many
friends in Cove, where " he formerly
lived and attended school, but has
not been back on a visit lor four
years.

society was entertained last Thurs

one visitor, Mrs. Lillian Shafer. The

C. H. Bid well, chaplain, conducted

were given from the recent cooked
food sale, and plans were also made
for the potluck dinner which Is to be
given Friday evening at 7 o'clock at
the church. In this social event, the
aid society co-operates with the parent-teacher
association, the special
guests being the minister, Rev. W. H.
Hertzog and family, and the teachers
of the Island City school.
