'IDAHOANS FAVOR
CONSTRUCIIONOF
I-O-N HIGHWAY
WASHINGTON V Favored by
Idahoana an cutting 700 miles from
the distance between, their fields and
Pallfprnia markets, the IdnhoOre-gon-Nevada
cut-off to provldo a
north-south main highway for dis
trict between the Cascade and Rocky
mountains, Is being urged by Sena
tor Pope (D,, Idaho), and T. A- Wal
ters, first assistant secretary of the
interior.
At present It was explained at Sen
ator Pope's office, Idaho shippers
must send their craps either across
Washington or Oregon tq the co.at
and thence to California. This not
only delays reaching the market h"1
Increases shipping costs "to the detri
ment of the Inland shippers."
The road It was said, would cut
the distance x 'between -Idaho fields
and California markets approximately
in half.
A great amount of the highway has
been constructed by . .the ' various
states; but it was pointed out, it can
,be .completed to . extend from the
Canadian border to Mexico for ap
proximately $1,500,000. '
As outlined dt the senator's office
by Walters, the road would follow U.
S. highway, No. 95 which ends at
Wciser, through Idaho. Under the
senator's plan it would be extended
through Eastern Oregon down the
Jordan valley, thence through Ne
vada and Into California.
Oregon -const interests, it was ex
plained, ihave offered an alternate
route thrqugh Crane, Oregon, to con
nect the Portland road and thence
south into California. Engineers were
quoted as saying the route via Port
land would cost approximately $2,
000,000, or $700,000 more than the
Inland route and would save but lit
tle mileage.
The proposed highway would tap
an irrigated area or Idaho In which
-between $22.Q00,000 and $25,000,000
has been spent by the reclamation
service, Walters said, and In addition
would give another outlet to Montana
wheat and livestock producers.

Grapes the last frwit crop of ihe
season are coming in 1... So .put .up your
jams and jellies now before prices risl
What an opportunity if you act at once! Sugar prices are
on the way up. Grapes are abundant. AU'jelly-making
materials arc down in price .. .
So get busy now and stock your jam cupboard to over
flowing with those jams and jellies your family loves!
With Ccrto and the Certo recipes it is so easy! Certo, you
know, .cuts your boiling time for jellies to only one-half
minute. And jams rarely require more than one minute.
Hence, with Certo, you can make a complete batch in 12
minutes or less from the time your fruit is prepared!
And the Ccrto short-boil method gives you half again
more glasses from the same amount of fruit. And belter
tasting jam and jelly, too. Because none of the fruit juice,
none of the fine, fresh fruit flavor, has time to boil away.
So don't wait until prices rise. Remember grapes are
the last of the fruit crops. Get your grapes, sugar, and Certo
now. A product of General Foods.
