better known locally as Al Bortli,
catcher for tho Pirate team In the
Blue Mountain league majiy years
ago, and whose home runs while
playing for La Grande broke up sev
eral bull games. Al managed the Pied
mont team in the Portland city
league this year, and although he
hadn't played, ball for four years,
worked in four games this season, two
as a catoher and two In the out
field. One of the games lie caught
wound up 1 to 0 in the tenth Inning.
Barth has many irlonds locally, who
were delighted to renew their ac
quaintance with him.
Other officials here were Albert E.
Horn Jr., assistant Oregon division
manager, and R. L. Angst, district
manager with headquarters In Pen
dleton. A. M. Lee, local agent, hand
led arrangements for the meeting and
the entertainment.
