rebounded sharply today, following a
. belated recovery In the grain and cot
- ton market, and advances of 1 to 5
or more points were recorded over a
' wide front. The dose was strong.
Although the activity was only mod
erate, after a fast 20-mlnute morning

lowest mark, ever reached, locally.
Market for butter showed a Blow
tone with no change suggested. In the
day's price either on the exchange or
on the open market. There continu
ed far greater tlian normal season
able make.
Most of tlio eggs being sold locally
at this time were out of storage. Some
that are talking of great strength In
fresh eggs were unwilling to buy
them, claiming they were using their
own short hold storage.
Serious scarcity of peaches con
tlnued here. It was Impossible to have
orders filled In Northern California
and. prices on tlie small iota available
have been advanced. Therefor higher
prices wore shown here.
There continued a shortage of
watermelons and good cantaloupes,
(California melons were hard to ob
tain and Yakima was shipping few
with only a few handsful from Ore
gon points. All cantaloupe prices
wore higher.
Thero was llttlo really top quality
head lettuce available and prices were ;
firm to higher hero. Sales were being j
made up to $1 cruto for the 'bcee

Four enlistments in the United
States navy from this district was re
ported today by Recruiting Officer C.
B. Yongue, stationed In. La Grande.
One of the four was from La Orande,
Ellidge Cross. He enlisted In Port
land and Is now en route to San
Diego. The others were from Baker,
Ontario and walla walla.
Another La Orande young man,
Donald Hannefleld, has been, accepted
and will go to Portland as soon as
authorization Is received hero.
