HATS OFF TO THE DRinU CORPS
' Members of La Grande's American Legioil drum and btlgfe
corps, triumphantly bearing four cups, emblematic of four
state victories in various competition at the Klamath Falls
convention last week, are back at workaday tasks today, but
each and every member carries with hirir memory of a hew
kind of thrill.
' It must have been thrilling the legionnaires from this
eity have been working for many years for just that one
(hihjf victory in the state convention. The success came as
a fitting culmination of a long, hard period of training, and
in the final analysis, all the glory should not be given to
those now in the drum corps those who were members hi
the organization in the past also should feel a glow of pride,
Their work in other years was just as important in some
respects, as it laid the foundation for the near perfect per
formances of 1933.
' Four cups they brought back from Klamath Falls, and
three of them will remain in La Grande permanently. The
fourth goes to the champion Oregoit drum arid bugle corps
to be held only during its period of championship, and the
La Granders will; be at Astoria next sumrhei' iii defense of
this trophy. Right iiow, it looks like better than an even
bet that they will retain it.
Literally, the golden-coated legionnaire organization cov
ered itself with glory;- Arid our hats are off to the drum
corps tbe finest in all Oregon.,
