Rosicrucians Of

At San Jose Meet
Rosicrucians of La, Grand were
represented at the recent interna
tional convention of the order held
In San Jose, Gal., July 18 to 22, by
Mrs. R. A. TuU of 1201 Eleventh
street. Nearly 700 from four foreign
Jurisdictions of the order attended
the mystical conclave, she redone.
tl'he sessions of the convention were
devoted to lectures and addresses en
mystical, philosophical and sclentiflo
topics in accordance with tha object
of the organization," she said. -
"Of outstanding interest ' to the
delegates was a demonstration of the
color organ in the Francis Bacon
auditorium of the order. The color
organ was created under the direc
tion of Dr. H. Spencer Lewis, supreme
officer of the order, In the Roslcru
olan laboratory after "years of re
search. When selections were played
upon the organ, the consciousness 'be
comes aware of the harmony not
alone through the sense of hearing,
.but also through the visual apprecia
tion of the blending of magnificent
colors projected upon a large silk
screen. The present project of the
Roslcruclan experimental laboratory
is the development of an electrical
device for measuring . the magnetic
radiations of the humon, or the aura,
and an attempt to manifest them to

NAZI DOCTRINE
IN TEXT BOOKS
STIRS AUSTRIA
Dy Wade Werner
VIENNA VP) Educational author.
Itles of Austria are revising school
histories as one way of helping Chan
cellor Engelbert Dollfuss' campaign
for perpetuation of Austria's Inde
pendence. The movement had Its motive In
the fact that while Dollfuss was urg
ing the people to resist the nassl doc
trine of union with Germany, the
textbooks were preaching "anschluss"
to the youngsters.
Language Posses Htnte Lines
Says one of these text books undor
the caption "Germany, Nation and
State":
'"The territory inhabited by the
Ocrman people is Germany, which Is
larger than the German relch. State
and nation do not always occupy
Identical territory; . the language
boundaries of peoples seldom coin
cide with state boundaries.
"And so great sections of German
speaking territory belong to foreign
states. Even the union of the two
purely German states, the German
relch and Austria, has not yet been
attainable.
"To be sure, the law of November
12, 1018, which determined the form
of the newly oreated Austrian repub
lic, contained also the paragraph:
'German Austria Is a constituent part
of the German republic'
"But the world war victors, par
ticularly France, England and Italy,
prohibited In the peace treaty the
union of the two states; notwith
standing that all Germans fervently
desire this 'anschluss'."
Would Recall Austria's Post
Supporters of Dollfuss also point
out that the textbooks have little to
say about Austria's glorious past.
What Irritates some of these crit
ics even mors Is the hamrner-and-slckle
motif (n the present Austrian
coat of arms, which is reproduced In
some of the textbooks with the ac
companying line: '"Note the hammer
and sickle."
In other words, the existing books
contain passages which can be used!
as nasi propaganda by teachers in
clined to sympathize with the an
sohluss movement, or as Marxist pro
paganda ("note the hammer and
sickle") by teachers who lean to the
loft.
"'Oct out your old history books
and tell the children what Austrlans
achieved in past generations,'" was
the appeal Dollfuss recently made
to parents.
