On your ballot is an attempt to tax a pure, wholesome
and benef ical food. And where there is a tax on one
food there can be taxes on others.
This scheme, already three times repudiated byftKe.
people, appears on the ballot as Referred Measure
Number 317. It is a proposal to place a vicious tax of
four cents a pound upon Oleomargarine! A tax of
35 upon this economical food!
THOUSANDS WOULD SUFFER
There are thousands of people in Oregon who would
suffer were this tax to pass. The cost of. living would
be raised for all of them. And these people are already
under the necessity of saving every penny they can.
That is what i& bad about a food tax . ; ; It is the .itieaii
