bridge parties yesterday afternoon at
the homp of the former. Proceeds
from the affairs will be used by St.
Peter's Episcopal Guild In Its winter
program of activities;
A profusion of autumn leaves dec
orated the rooms, making a colorful
setting for the event.
Four tables were arranged for bridge
and the prize for high score was
awarded to Mrs. Andrew Loney Jr.
Tea was served late In the afternoon.

Parent Teacher associations expect to
attend an organization meeting of
those Interested In a parent teacher
association tonight In the Baker High
school building at Baker. Mrs. Ar
. mand Perkins, of Muddy Creek, and
Mrs. Thomas Murtha, of Haines, will
assist the two La Grande women In
explaining the organization and ac
tivities of the parent teacher associa
tion, " ,
Hallowe'en Party
At The Hug Home
A Hallowe'en motif was carried out
in the' bridge table appointments and
the refreshments yesterday when Mrs.
A. E. Hug entertained the Wakeilt
club at her home. Bridge was played
during the afternoon and prizes were
awarded to Mrs. O. L. Berry, first, and
Mrs. J. R. Davy, second.
Refreshments were served late in
the afternoon by the hostess.
Mrs. Will MoClure will be the, next
hostess, entertaining next Monday at
her home.
Baker Girl Weds
Robert S. Read
Miss Ruth Kaneaster, of Baker, be
came the bride of Robert 8. Read, or
La Grande, Saturday afternoon In
Baker, according to word received
from there today. The marriage was
witnessed by Mrs. Ollvo M. Paine, sis
ter of the bride, and Miss Elizabeth
Dunn. Rev. Cfccar Gibson performed
the ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Read will make their
home hero where he Is employed at
the Perkins Motor Co.
Birthday Party
At Starmer Home
The anniversary of the birthday of
Mrs. Ella Baker was the Inspiration
for a delightful party last night at
which the members of the K. D. club
were hostesses, at the home of Mrs.
Baker's daughter, Mrs. Hazel Starmer.
A group of her friends gathered at
eight o'clock and after an evening of
games, refreshments were served.
Guests were Mrs. Baker, the guest
of honor; Mrs. Eula Webb, Mrs, Alta
Wlnburn, Mrs. Jeanne Ball, Mrs.
Sarah Young, Mrs. Laura Wlnburn.

In Meeting Monday
The ways and means committee of
St. Peter's Episcopal Guild, of which
Mrs. O, N. Tarklngtoa is ohalrman,
met last night at the rectory and out
lined the work for the remainder ot
the year. The first event is a benefit
card party which will be held Nov. 10.
During the holiday season the gullo
members also plan to make old -fashioned
mince meat and fruit puddings.
