Roosevelt has 404,002 votes, or 50.75
per cent., and Hoover has 325.845 or
40.82 per cent, of the total abulated.
Norman Thomas, the Socialist candi
date, 1b receiving 6.05 per cent, of the
ballots with the other five minor can
didates dividing the balance or 1.78
per cent, of the total vote.
Hoover is leading in the six states
of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts,
New Hampshire, New Jersey and
Rhode Island, which have a combined
electoral college vote of 64.
Roosevelt Is loading In Alabama,
California. Colorado, Georgia. Illinois.
Indiana. Mississippi, Montana, New
York, Ohio, Pennsylvania. South Caro
lina, West Virginia and Wisconsin,
which states poll 224 votes In the
electoral college.
In an analysis of "how the same
voters voted In 1028," Roosevelt Is
shown gaining less strength from1 the
Republican ranks than he did last
week while the Hoover Inroads into
tho Democratic vote of four years ago

from former Republicans there.

tain more than 2 to 1 lead over Hoo
vor In the president's home state of
California. Roosevelt is obtaining
over one-half of ' his total vote in
California from those who stated they
voted for Hoover four years ago, the
largest ratio the Democratic candi
date gets from former Republican
ranks In any state. Roowevelt has
36,873 votes to Hoover's 16,402 this
week In tho'' state.
Tho southern states reporting this
week give Roosevelt tremendous plu
ralities: 70.42 per cent., in Alabama;
83.62 per cent., in Georgia; 80.46 per
cent.. In Mississippi, and 88.61 per
cent, in South Carolina.
New Hampshire gives Hoover 56,62
per cent, of its total vote, leading the
Republican state columh to date while
Massachusetts gives the president
66.14 per cent., Connecticut 64.51
per cent, and Maine 63.51 per cent,
of the current ballots cast In these
Republican .strongholds.
Roosevelt Is obtaining over a ma
jority of the votei? over all of the six
other presidential candidates in 13
of the 20 states reported this week.

play, will be presented by the Oove
High school at the gymnasium Satur
day evening at 8 o'clock as a library
benefit. This play will have a set
ting of music by the High school glee
club and will be accompanied by sev
eral sklfs by the grade pupils. There
also will be readings and music fur
nished by the Woman's -club.
A halt was called In the prune
packing at the co-operative plant
Tuesday about noon and a recess was
declared until Thursday morning. The
purpose was not declared but was
generally supposed to -be due to a
lack of box materials.
Mr, and Mtb. Boy Dudley and fam
ily, of Pendleton, were Sunday visi
tors of Mr. and Mrs. Kalph Comstock.
Mrs. Dudley was a school friend of
Mrs. Comstock when they lived in Ne
