of the Lord thy God. and wilt do that
which is right In his sight, . . . I

the following passage- from the
Christian Science textbook, "Science
and Health with Key to the Scrip

one Ood, one Mind, unfolds the pow
er that heals the sick, and fulfils
these sayings of Scripture, 'I am the
Lord that healeth thee,' and '1 have
found a ransom.' When the divine
precepts ere understood, they unfold
the foundation of fellowship. In
which one mind Is not at war with
another, but all have one Spirit, God,
one intelligent source. In accordance
with the scriptural command: 'Let
this Mind be In you, which was also
in Christ Jesus' " (p.276).

And he arose and rebuked the wind,
and Bald unto the sea peace be still.
Mark 4-39.
Conditions today have come to the
point where many men believe
honestly believe that the teachings
of Christ cannot be carried Into busi
ness, and certainly not into politics
or the management of publlo affairs.
So they have ft religion for week-days,
and another which they keep care
fully brushed and folded and put away
for Sundays. And the man who has
only the one kind, and tries to use
it on week-days as well as on Sun
days, knows what the storm on the
Sea of Galilee was like. There are the
fears and the doubts, like the evil
breath of the hells, sweeping down
upon him. "Is it worth it? Does It
pay? Can Providence care for me
does the Lord even know? Isnt He
asleep.there, utterly unaware of my
difficulties? Why not forget religion,
and get Into the swim, make my pile,
and then give somo attention to the
enure nv And so lortn.
If any man thinks that It Is not a
real storm, let him try It and stick
to his principles mrougn tmcK ana
thin. Let any man, any woman, hon-
estly seek to "cross to the other side",
with his or her religion, and carry It.
Into actual practice In business, In
the home, wherever he or she goes
In life, and they will know what a
storm means. And it will be such a
storm as they themselves cannot still.
Only when the Master standi at the
prow of their little vessel, and cries,
"Peace: be stilll" will the evil spirits'
who arouse that storm cease their ef
forts and the soul find peace.

Fewer Fires In
Northwest This
Summer, Report
PORTLAND, Ore. (Special) Greater
carefulness on the port of the forest
using public, combined with favorable
weather and an efficient forest pro
tection organization, has resulted In
substantial savings in the fire fight
ing coats on the 22 national fores la of
Oregon and Washington, thus con
tributing to the federal economy pro
gram. . . ,
The report Just Issued by the reg
ional forester here, covering the per
iod up to August 10, shows that lost
year there were 848 fires started, as
compared with 457 for the present
year. There were 179 lightning fires
for this period last year, as against
iau tins year, up to August iu, iuai,
there were 669 man-caused fires,
while In 1932 there were only 824.
Careless Bmokers are charged with I'M
of the 1992 fires, and campers wlCh
95. the 1981 figures being smokers 232
ana campers 128. 1
The campaign of rigid law enforce
ment against maliciously set fires is
apparently showing results, 1931 be
ing charged with 165 incendiary fires,
with but 78 in 1932 to date.
For the period covered by the re
port, 1931 shows 36,414 acres of na
tional forest land burned over. This
acreage is reduced 'to 10,038 acres in
1932. The cost of fire fighting this
year Is $46,697, as against 0238,915
last year.
- Quick and effective action on the
part of the forest service crewB has
resulted in holding most of the fires
under 10 acres each, only 39 ot of
the 467 exceeding this Blze. A few
large fires, principally on the Whlt
man and Blsklyou forests, account for
most of the acreage burned. A total
of 329 of this years fires have been
held to under one quarter of an
acre, It is said.
All forest service fires this season
are being handled by regularly em
ployed road and trail or special crews,
according to the reRlonal forester.
In commenting on the favorable
showing this year, foresters point out
that there are vet several weeks In
which dangerous fire weather could oo.
cur. A few days of hot weather and
low humidity, a little public careless
ness, and there would be grave danger
and costly fires.

I Constipation is caused by lack of
