to rjav out on the new fire truck.
They are now working for a pumper

Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Cross who have
been visiting, a few weeks among
their old friends and, neighbors at

Cove Christian Endeavor society met
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. E.
Elmer. During, the first part of Che
evening, the usual C.- E. meeting, was

leader. The topic was "How Far Does
the Teaching of Jesus Affect. Our
Conduct?" There wero, about 65

Emma Chllders, widow of the lete
James W. Chllders, passed away Satr
urday evening. July lfj, 1833, at .the
home of her son Earl Chllders. east
of Joseph, She became 111 of a heart
affliction, seven weeks ago andt was
confined' to her bed since then. . Fu
neral services were held Tuesday af
ternoon In. the Methodist church and
burial was in the Enterprise ceme
tery. The pastor, Rev. Hall K. Wallls,
conducted the services.
Emma Tlce was the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. j. A. Tlce and was born
in Salenj, Jan. 12', 1854. Her mother
was born in New Hampshire and
crossed the plains with the Whitman
party, and her father was born in
New. Jersey. She was married to
James W. Chllders at Wclser, Ida
June 5, 1870.
They lived on a farm near Sum
mrrvllle until 18B2wljeri they moved
to ' a farm at' Elgin, and then made,
their home In town until 1890 when'
they came to Wallowa county and
settled on a farm on Trout creek.
That remained their home until Mr
Chllders passed away Oct. 4, 1929 al
though' they wereaway from' it 'a
lew years.
Seven children were born to Mr,
and Mrs. Chllders. One passed away
In Infancy and six survive, Mrs. E. A.
Brcshears of San Jose, Cal.; Mrs. L,
M. Carswell of San Francisco, Cal.;
Mrs. Dora Becker, Portland, and Wil
Ham, Albert and Earl and there are
22 grandchildren and 11 great-grand
children.
Mrs. Chllders was a. native. Ore,
