was filled to the galleries Saturday
evening when the senior class pre
cepted its play "The Knight of the
Road." The play was full of action
and thrills that kept the audience
in an uproar much of the time.
Fawn Geertaen, winsome daughter of
the old farmer, Roy CorUclln,. and
the "nervous'1 mother, Juanita Rob
erts, won much applause with her
artful ways' and childish pranks. Her
"fella," Roy Baxter who was always
attired in" outgrown clothes except
when a dog's depredations made it
necessary to don trousers that hap
pened to be about three sizes too
large, kept' the audience1 in laughter
through his silly blunders. Melvln
Hces played the part of the villain
to perfection and Chct Baum, Rod
ney Miller and Qaylord Prather,
not tramps from choice, looked the
part enough that there could be no
mistake In their identity. Thelma
) Irvln, charming and sensible young
wife of tie villain, was glad to es
cape the ties that bound her. The
story ended happily when the sheriff.

chinery or transmitting results of
the Kansas relays.
Pror. W. A. Dill, director of the
University of Kansas news bureau,
put boy scouts to work three years
ago relaying results from field to
press box by means of signal flags,
using both Morse and semaphore
codes.
The system serves as a double
check on reports over the field tele
phone, but can be used In place of
tho phone in an emergency. Two
scouts work at the scene of action
while two others copy the signals In
the press box.
At ono meet the telephone set
failed to work and the burden fell
upon the scouts. Checking later,
Professor Dill found the young sig
nal men had transmitted every word
and figure correctly.

to have any serious difficulty in get
ting his party's nomination this
month over his opponent, J. M.
Richards, of Umatilla county.
