oped the habit of playing with dan
gerous toys. He's going to fight
Billy Petrol le again, this time In
Chicago May 20,
Bat's face, a grotesque crimson
mask, when he was helped from the
Madison Square Garden ring last
March, was eloquent testimony of
tho danger of fooling with the fists
of the old Fargo. Express. Further
evidence was the subsequent re
quest of the New York boxing com-'
mission that Battalino rest for (3D
daya..'; ; ;, J:
In that battle for 11 rounds Bat
talino walked into Petrolle, who'
can put a left' hook through the eye
of a needle. Bat's plan was to get
in close 1 to nullify the leverage of
PetroUe's blows. He started his forward-
march In the twelfth. Then
suddenly he couldn't take any more,
and wandered dozed to . the ropes.
The bout was halted.
Rlngslderfi recalled ithe thrrific
beating aene-Tunney took In his.
first meeting with Harry Oreb, of
the bouts lri which Battling Nelson
was a human punching bag, to find
suitable comparison.
In Chicago there will be no 12th
round', for the bout Is scheduled for
ten. An Ironic note In the first fight
was that Battalino, who before had
proved himself a . strong finisher,
wanted 15 rounds, while Petrolle In?
slsted. 10 rounds was long enough.
Twelve rounds was & compromise.
B&ttalino's flaming courage against
Petrolle must have been a surprise
to Cincinnati fans who earlier In the
year had seen him fold up In three
rounds from some light taps by
Freddy, Miller.
However, Bat had about outgrown
the feather title and wanted to cam
paign in the heavier divisions. Bnt
tflUno Jsays he was yreajcened 2 ron
making 120 pounds.
Bat has always been an indiffer
ent performer in bouts that didn't
count. He turned in numerous slop
py Jobs in nort-title fights while
featherweight champ. But in the
Important battles, against La Barba,
Chocolate, Singer, Ran, he always
has come through.
