ter was able to attend, but the local
group is represented among the can
didates -for office by Mrs. J. K,
Wright who is a candidate for librar

ature loaned by the national commlt

-feature of the meeting. It will be
under the supervision of Mrs. . Nelson
W. Hibbs, state chairman, and the

the three Portland chapters. The pub

Presents Program
Mrs. R. P. Murphy presented a pro
gram of contemporary Oregon fiction
yesterday afternoon at a meeting of
the Daughters of the American Rev
olution, iield at 2:30 at the home of
Mrs. ,B. 8. Eokln. The program was
ably -presented and was enjoyed by a
large group of members.
Plans lor planting trees were start
ed, and a committee was appointed
'for this. The committee Includes
Mrs. Raymond O. Williams, Mrs. H. G.
Avery and Mrs. G. T. Cochran.
Tea was served late In the af terr
noon by Mrs. Eokln.
The hostess for the next meeting
on April 8 has not yet been selected,
but will be announced later.

Union held an enthusiastic meeting
at the home of Mrs. Howard Smith,
on J avenue Tuesday afternoon. Mrs.
G. W. Masten, vice president, was In
charge of the meeting which opened

were made and committees appointed
lor the all-day Institute on March 22
A potluclc lunch will be served at
noon, with a program to follow.

A two-course luncheon was served
at the close of the afternoon. Mrs.

started, and committees will be art
pointed later. A cooked food sale was

. found to be one answer to the prob
lem of lco formation In flying.
By using engine exhaust gases
! either directly or to heat mixtures of
! alcohol and water, scientists of tho
national advisory committee for aero
' nautlcs say that the ice hazard may
be eliminated.
Tests conducted by Theodore Theo
dorsen and William Clay -showed it
was necessary only to heat the front
portion of the wing surface to effect
complete prevention.
j The actual quantity of heat needed
, was in the order of one-tenth of that
available In the exhaust gases. Dlreet
distribution was found practicable
for "all-metal" wings, while pipe
lines and a boiler were used In other
types.
On the upper surface it was also
found advisable to ubo a small slot
behind the heated section to collect
the rain water from melted ice. This
prevented the water from being
blown back and forming into Ice on
trailing edge of a.wlng. -T

(Serve warm)
16 siloes white bread.
1-3 cup yellow . cream roheese.
4 tablespoons soft butter.
2 tablespoons salad dressing.
4 teaspoon salt. .
Select very fresh bread, Cut It In
thin slices and cut off .crusts with
sharp knife. Mix rest of ingredients
and when very soft spread con bread.
Roll up each piece. and toast In a
moderate oven. Serve at once,

1 cups tuna. . .
1 cup soft bread. . .
Yi teaspoon salt.
' 14 tteaBpoon paprika.
Vt teaspoon celery, salt. .
2 tablespoons finely chopped pimen
tos. 1 tablespoon finely chopped green
peppers. .
2 eggs, beaten.
1 cup milk.
4 tablespoons butter, melted.
Mix Ingredient and pour into but
tered tlmbale pans. Set in pan of hot
water and bake 30 minutes, in, slow
oven. Unmold carefully and surround
with cream sauce.
Cream Sauce
4 tablespoons butter,
6 tablespoons flour. .
3 cups milk. . ,s
& teaspoon salt.
14 teaspoon paprika.
1 egg beaten.
Melt butter , and add flour. When
blended, add milk and cook until
creamy sauce forms. Stir constantly.
Add rest of Ingredients and cook l
minuto. Stir constantly. Serve at once.
Banana Date Cake Dessert
cup fat.
1 cups sugar.
2 eggs.
1 cup mashed bananas.
yh cup sour milk. .
1 teaspoon vanilla. .
3 cups flour.
4 teaspoon salt. '
1 teaspoon soda.
teaspoon baking powder.
cup chopped dates.
cup broken nuts.
Cream the tat and BUgar. Add eggs
and beat 1 minute. Add rest of in
gredients. Pour Into shallow pan fit
ted with waxed paper. Bake 80 min
utes in moderate oven. Cool, and
serve In squares topped with whlpf
pea cream.
